Why couldn't OSs like windows have such feature integrated , even if users had to launch it as 'dev' ...?

These are the kind of stupid questions ...
    Like...
... who, at microsoft, had the great idea to use the 'my documents' folder, as one main installation folder, like 'program files'..
Even if we choose custom installs, and pick 'program files' as main install folder, a ton of crap will be copied to 'my documents'...
...and because my documents is the default save folder, for many (most) apps, we end up with My documents with hundreds of folders and terabytes of crap.

Was it too complicated, to create a folder like 'Apps settings ', under C:, and let the apps copy all the crap, config files, etc , inside that folder...!

This is fantastic. I used this ten years ago but stopped using it when it became paid software. Is it still good nowadays? I read their statement. Fantastic decision to go open source. Do you think this is good for running portable versions of programs with? Specifically, something like Kontakt Portable. Although I would think performance would probably be abysmal. Thank you for posting this.

In Windows 10 (I think the May 2019 update) there is a new app called Sandbox which is similar to this, but does not save data i.e. it deletes all the modification after we close the sandbox.

    Its call virus malware etc
I am a little conspiracy thinking when it comes to BUSSINESS
Just look at the lightbulb conspiracy on Youtube and you get what its alla about.
I saw a movie about how microsoft was born
Well it was more a movie about Bill Gates life
And in the early days long before computers was in every home they where about to enter a flight to a computer conference
And they where late to the flight and the security guard stopped them when they wnated to go on board.
Somehow they managed to convince the guard that they needed to go an board it was very very important as they where fighting a virus in the computer software or something similar (it was many years ago i saw that movie)
And when they told him imagine if everyone here would get a nast cold or a bad tomachflu its the same with a computer software imagine if the software here at the airport get a cold or stomachflu how would that work out here?
That make the guard to understand so he called the aircraft who hasnt started yet and let them go on board.
And when I isaw that movie i immediately understand why Virus/Malware has become second nature and also is such a big deal in Windows OS.
I had years before that movie uninstalled my GF av software (Kaspersky) as the payment period was over she had tons of porn mail and spam everyday and tons of warnings that here system was in risk of being attacked.
That was strange as she only surfed on dog sites and clothes sites and read news never ever on porn or other snasty tuff.
So i uninstalled everything cleaned everything ad voila all spam was gone and all warning she got dissapeared of course so i did an online scan uising Panda and here computer was clean.
Somehow i understood it was the AV companys that sent all email and it is htose that made her afraid that her PC was under attack.
I bet Gates works toghether with those companys they get richer and richer togheter if they can scare the users.
So why on earth make Microsoft safe?

As far as I remember, it became free quite sometime ago. It's not as effective (most of times doesn't work at all) as it was ten years ago, but better than nothing if you don't use a vitual machine (best choice).

It is not free at all - one has to submit himself to america (nothing unexpected) to dl the software.

This is very good news indeed, maybe I can convince my company to get it when the sources are released. No more viruses.
But I have to say, it's quite cumbersome to use

    What?

Sandbox is a solid idea. If any installation a has a virus or anything risky it isolates it into the sandbox.
As for MSWindows - I remember laughing at a comment ten years ago when someone at Trend Micro was asked what the worst virus around was. He said 'Windows. It takes over your entire system and at any given moment forces you to do what it wants and when you do not, it crashes your system, sometimes beyond repair.'

Windows is more stable now, but it was not always that way.

I read somewhere that all the good m$ devs got shifted to azure (m$ new product) and only noobs got left behind for win10. Thats why updates are always faulty.

Gyro, I think the biggest issue was back then was that on PC's, people had weird and wonderful combinations, with many parts advertised as cheap and in some cases, they were nasty with Windows. Ever since the MAC moved to Intel the parts have become more generic, that is people are dealing with mostly two processors now and two graphics cards for the greater part, so the stability is more noticeable. I had zero issues with XP either I am with you on that and Win 7 was pretty decent. But I know a lot of people that had major issues.
