I hate searching synth libraries, thousands of wav files or sound design to find the bass sound that is audible in small speakers, kicks ass on big ones and production-ready so I don't have to tweak it for hours but will still sound like shit.

What is your go-to bass (patch, wav etc.) for pop, hip hop, dance, trap etc.?

I've come full circle back to sylenth 1. It has a warmth to it in the low end.

 

Different every time. Sometimes Kontakt (MODO bass, Rickenbacker, etc), Spire, Repro-1, Surge, etc. Sometimes Beepstreet Dagger, OP-X Pro II, Viking1, etc.

"Audible on small speakers" is more about upper harmonics. These can be created with sauration (in either serial or parallel, with some filtering) or you can layer synths/sounds (in different ranges).

I agree Sylenth is cool for simple and generic sounds,when you don't need lots of modulations.It's very basic,so it's fast.And it sounds great.

I forgot about Beepstreet Dagger, it's a good one I mostly use my trusty Fender P-bass strung with flatwounds, or an old Korg MS-20.

 

Linplug Alpha Free V3.3.0.0 has a 'Lately Bass' preset in it's AlphaFREE 2 Soundbank called "BS Lately Bass vv"
