What delay plugin do you guys use to add width? and by that I don't mean a the ping-pong effect, but the effect in which the mono sound comes out of the sides. (not really Haas Effect or maybe yes)

Perhaps, I'm not being clear enough. So, for this technique, I myself use Soundtoys EchoBoy and set it to Dual Mode, turn the mix knob all the way, left delay set to 0.00, and right delay set to 25 MS.

I know I could use the Microshifter, but i prefer this.

So, what delay plugins do you use for this method?

For the kind of spread that you're talking about, Sample Delay in Logic is my go to. Boring but effective.

 

I use Tokyo Dawn Labs Proximity for that. It's simple and effective. A really great mixing plugin. There's also Voxengo Sound Delay, but I don't use it as often as I should, since it's so transparent.

As for the delay, I'm simply obsessed with Valhalla Delay and u-he Carbon Copy, but we're not talking about that here.

For width huh...
I've been really liking the new on from ADA Plugin Alliance called. STD-1
Pretty good width.

STD-1 and mono upmix you can achieve some really insane depth and width.


Pattern Delay Soundtoys Primal Tap all day.
And ofc my goto for quick n easy H-DELAY <Also capable of achieving width ive just never took the time to go beyond basic delays

 

yea sounds like something you would have...

 

You can use any delay that allows 0 msec delay on one of its channels.

 

Valhalla Delay is really good at that. Even just putting a 1ms difference makes such a huge and nice 3d sound.

 

My uncle has been trying to get rid of without delay...

ditto for Color Copy. Man what a cool sounding delay. I still think uhe is top 3 for devs who make good sounding analog colored plugins.

I'm really curious about Valhalla delay but I kind of don't want to try it because I have way more delays than I even want. I have Echoboy, Relayer, Color Copy, Imperial Delay, PrimalTap, Timeless 2, Crystalizer, Repeater, Precision Delay-Mod, and probably 5-10 other ones that i either got cheap or free and don't use. Lately I've been using Imperial Delay and Repeater the most due to versatility and ease of use. Delays are one of those things that seem like a good idea and then you realize you have no use for more than a few of them


Regarding the OP - If i were gonna use a delay for that sort of has effect I'd probably just use a stock delay or whatever is easiest, unless i wanted it to have a specific color to it. PluginBoutique StereoSavage or Ozone Imager is usually what I grab for this though since that's what they're made for and make it even easier than using a delay.

Yeah, when it was released, I avoided it thinking it's just another delay plugin. I might download the trial. Cheers.

 

My dilemma!

I never really gave it a try with the stock delay plugin in Cubase. Thanks for the tip mate.

Yes, m-me too! At least I want to try every delay out there, but it gets just too much. Now I only have the soundtoys bundle, valhalla delay, timeless 2 installed. Really want to try Color Copy or the D16 stuff, but I don't even know how to use the delays I already have. Mostly I even use Fruity Delay 2 :D

 

The delay I use is called Delay. Seriously...
