As you can see the video above, the note on the left side of the piano roll looks different from the normal look. It is displayed only c0, c1, c2, c3....on any DAW. How do make all of them displayed in Studio One?

  3. You probably don’t need to do this. The video operator is entering a note and then highlighting it, by selecting it with the mouse. I don’t know any DAW where this will have a material effect on the MIDI coming out of the DAW, and he’s doing this to make it clear on the video which notes are playable and which are control events.

Sections of the keyboard are grayed out whereas the main playable section isn’t. Notes which play are getting sent to the highlit split on the keyboard, notes which control Musiclab are being sent to just below the playable area, in the grayed out part.

I think he's talking about the key's labelling C4, D4, E4, ..., which is not the normal way in SO.

It is the normal view in my SO4.5, and here..

He has three choices. He can use the drum editor where every note is named but you have to use drum notation. He can hover the mouse over the piano roll keys and get an individuated note name pop-up. Or he can learn the keys of the piano roll. I'd reccomend the latter as it's a portable skill and faily mandatory when dealing with music.

Are we talking past each other? Just look at the vid's thumbnail, every white key of the vertical keyboard labelled and I've never seen this before, nor do I find a hint to this in the link you posted.
But maybe I'm missing something?

Ye, that's what I've found. Which means there is no way to display them like one in the video. So sad. Thanks anyways!

  9. That's not SO. I don't know what it is but you'd never have the label [Control] pointing sideways at a chain of events with circles on the top. It's like nothing I've used but I somehow thing the style is Logic Pro. Could be the pot head pixie for all I know.

In the fly out menu top-left of the piano roll, VIEW > Keyboard Style and Keyboard labels allow you to change settings.

  11. I can't see that on my Windows version. I can see note naming under the drum view but not the keyboard. Where does the fly-out menu come from? I can't see it in the help file either.

This is really cool! Does anyone know if is it possible to do this in Reaper? :dunno:

  14. Gee thanks. The clue is in this being the Studio One forum, and the conversation being about STudio One. Thanks though.

On SO3 you can switch to Drum Map editor, just write/save/load pitchname with note names as labels. Too bad SO4 made this feature somewhat restricted for midi editing (only triangles, no more rectangles).

I think it is possible in any DAW though.

Yep, I found out. Double right click on the keys opens a small window. You can type in anything you want, even different types of drum strokes.

Thanks No Avenger! The cool thing is that you can customize the visual cues for each keyswitch!

Reaper continues to surprise me. I just wish a notation editor more like the ones in Logic and/or Cubase.

    And that of course, yes.

I once read somewhere that no human knows every possile option of Reaper by heart.
