These vocals were recorded twice, as you can hear from the different dynamics. This usually makes them mono compatible.

You mean that pitch shifting shit? [IMG] :winker:

Either realtime pitchshifter with keys (like the one in Cubase, for instance) or some manual or automatic 'detuning' with stock wave editor, or Melodyne, or ...

As said, double-track and counter-pan. Then Melodyne/autotune the shit out of them (if you like the sound), as in the example. :)

Cents won't work, that's too less.

I mean pitch-correcting/autotuning them each with Celemony Melodyne or Antares Autotune or similar. With pitch-correction the cent amount differs from every millisecond. Sometimes it's nothing, while a hundreds of a seconds later it can be 30 cents corrected.

In essence, record the same vocal line (sung) twice. Pan take1 to the far left. Pan take2 to the far right.
Or play around with how far you want each to be, as they can also be panned "ten to" "ten past" (for example) to reduce the width.

Then on the vocal bus (both vocals summed) you can add Soundtoys MicroShift (which is an emulation of the Eventide H3000 effect, preset #99 IIRC) that pitchshifts left and right channel down and up in counter-motion. This creates a chorusy, wide and quite pleasant sound. A little goes a long way.

Baxter is always correct, but he will probably be one of the 1st to admit there are many ways to accomplish the same goal.:drummer:

    :)
Indeed, but in this case it's pretty straight-forward and not too many ways to accomplish the effect in the OP.

Eventide made quality hardware effect racks in the late 70's, 80's, 90's, etc. Valhalla is a fairly new software company. There's your answer.

Same with Lexicon effect racks. They were the pioneers in good sounding digital algorithms. Lexicon digital reverb 224 still sells for insane prices. So does the Eventide H3000. Not to mention the Bricasti M7.

Valhalla makes extremely good sounding reverbs and delays, at a fraction of the cost of the above mentioned boxes.

You can always try-before-buy. Eventide, Lexicon, etc. Also checkout Exponential Audio reverbs (now owned by iZotope). It's up to you to decide if you like them or not. That's not up to me to decide. Valhalla is amazing and top-of-the-line. If you can't get the desired results from Valhalla, then maybe your mixing and processing (pre and post reverb) might need some work.

I worked with an early model Eventide Harmonizer at he studio I recorded in in the late 70's and 80's. I remember you had to get the right studio where it was "home", or it tended to get moved around from studio to studio if you could get there early enough to finagle. I remember the 1st time I heard Bowie's "Low". I knew something was up but had not seen a Harmonizer yet. Took a few more years before there were enough for smaller studios to get one.https://vintageking.com/blog/2018/03/eventide-harmonizer/ I like hardware- somebody buy me the new 9000. And I still like Lexicon, which came out about the same time.
