Hi. Is anybody experienced in using Novation Remote 25SL Compact? Especially I am interested in using it with Ableton Live. I have read the manual ten times and somehow I know so far what I don't know. Things are not working as they should. I haven't installed Automap (I hate its wrapping plugins) which can be needed for editing Automaps or keyboard's system is fucked up. I would like to edit Ableton Automap in the keyboard and modify and save as a User Automap and how to program Buttons to make them work as switches?

seems automap is a pain to setup just by the amount of tutorials for that

 

I don't like or use Automap myself. To be completely honest, I've never even tried it, ever. lol It's also unnecessary as all you need for editing your Remote SL is right there in its menus, or you can use the template editing software that you can download here. I used this software to make a couple of more/less universal templates and then I edit them as necessary from the keyboard itself. It is really not that complicated. I love my Remote 37SL. Except for the weird velocity feeling, it feels lovely to work with. It even supports 14-bit MIDI CCs on some pots.

 

Thanks. I have downloaded all stuff from their website. But I still don't know how to program a button to switch from Send A to Send B in Live.

You can program a button, or a drumpad, and even a pot or a fader, to do whatever you want it to do, be it a CC, NRPN/RPN, Sysex, MMC... Remote SL is a very powerful and configurable MIDI controller [look at page 66 in the manual]. The main problem here is how do you set it up in Live? Do sends accept CCs or sysex? That, I'm afraid, is not my domain. I have no clue about Live. Sorry. I know how to set it up in Reaper.

But no worries, if it's possible someone will jump in and tell you what you have to do in Live. I'm sure there's a way.

I have just noticed 5 different Ableton templates in the remote-sl-templates2.zip file under Additional_Standard_Templates . Have you tried those?

 

No. I haven’t tried them. Are they in Novation’s folder? Anyway, I have installed Automap. I wanted to edit any Automap from keyboard but no additional window has opened (as it was showed in the manual). So far I can load Live Automap in the keyboard and use how it is.

Automap sucks and then you die. I roll my own for the instruments and plugins I use and have a much higher quality of life.

 

I am wiser now. I have just registered my keyboard at Novation. I got links to drivers, the manual (I have got them before) and SURPRISE!!! sl-compact-template-editor3. I couldn't find it before. I have dumped one Automap from keyboard to this app and let's see what it can do. Thanks for your help guys.

I have given up with. But I will check the link above. Thanks. I have come to interaction with Novation support. The guy haven’t mention even how to edit Automaps written in the keyboard (Automap 40 for Ableton). It looks they don’t care about it. The editor is useless. It doesn’t show what controllers can control in Ableton. Or I have no patience for Automap. ???
