They say it maintins mono-compatiblity, so that's prolly done via:

Combing: Voxengo stereo touch (FREE), JSFX pseudostereo , BX_stereomker, PSP pseudostereo, Nugen stereoizer
FFT: Voxengo PHA-979, Nuendo Mixconvert

I could be wrong, but that's the only 2 methods I know of that can give the original mono back when downmixed. Do they have a 3rd method I don't know of?

There's some other methods like pitch & reverb, but those won't give the original mono back when downmixed.

New in this implementation: phase display.

Xcuse me dont follow all "gossip" w.t.f is that "Elton John" ? i seen it before but i have no clue

 

Boz always includes something about Elton in his releases so it became a joke around these parts.

 

I haven't checked the other plugins you mentioned, but this plugin is kind of similar to what Stereo Touch does. It adds a couple other filters in there to prevent certain notes and all of their harmonics odd harmonics from panning to one side, and adds the scope.

The different modes are different delay taps/filters. Mode 1 has just a single delay comb filter and some other filters, mode 2 has 2 comb filters + other filters and mode 3 has 3 comb filters. Bassically, the higher the mode, the more time smearing it has, but the more width it provides. I use mode 1 on percussive stuff and mode 2/3 on more sustained sources like vocals (it sounds amazing on Elton John's vocals btw).
