It's not a bad rate for work-for-hire if the singer is experienced and can knock it out fast. Hooks are prewritten and OP has a studio to record at. Otherwise singer would need to supply files remotely, could be recorded in a closet if the quality is decent. The record seems good so it seems legit

It's not a good rate...$50 - $150... definitely not for a professional singer. Maybe in the US people are more desperate... :dunno:

A 'naive' beginner might work for that rate... maybe, bt not an experienced working vocalist. :dont:

Where do hired singers retain rights or get ownership for recording pre written choruses for someone elses album?

And why not? No one is forced to do the job.
For a beginner even the rate may be attractive.
All aspects are honestly shown before someone signs a contract. Fair in my p.o.v
    What are you complaining of?

$150 for setting up the mic and getting my girlfriend to sing the prewritten hooks or lyrics or whatever one needs is a pretty sweet deal, session singers never retain their rights, that is a debate all on its own but, remember The Music Production Industry is 5% art 95% Business

Depends on how much input they have...full ownership obviously shouldn't be expected, bt depending on what exactly they contribute to the track & session is and should always be up for discussion.

I work with session vocalists regularly, & my partner is also a working vocalists. She wouldn't even consider a deal or job like what's been offered above, nor would I expect a vocalist to work for me with a deal like that... Even at $150 it's a low rate, bt $50 is just insulting... At that rate you really are looking to hire (& rip off) a naive amateur...

    Love sparking conversatoin lol

The thing is. If i were looking for someone Professional I have the same contact numbers to the same houses as everyone else.
I can get a number of people starting at around $500 and some of wich have fan bases already and would seriously contribute to my over all d/l
What this was, was a opportunity for someone who may not have a fan base or a manager, or ties to some of these other manager who work for multiple people.
I've worked for free for...countless years before i finally started charging for Verse or Choruses
Offering someone random off a website $50-150 usd is actually fairly generous in my opinion, because infact im sure some of the people who would potentially answer would probably do it for free just for exposure?
Thats my thought on it any how.

Me owning the rights to the vocal is me saving my ass. Now days anything can go viral and you just dont know what it is.
I'm really not trying to split royalties for a song ive been working on for 2 weeks with someone who read my lyrics did a couple takes and called it a day... Just doesn't seem fair.
So if your looking at this like its some introduction to the industry lol.. this is not that . My manager knows the people to call for that when the times rite.
This is a HEY Wana make a little money for recording something in your bedroom?

IDK Like i said i thought i was being generous for what was really just a collab over a forum?

I understand your point of view but disagree with you on thinking people would do it just for "exposure". Getting paid in "exposure" is the biggest meme this profession has

Some of you are jumping on the OP as if you are reps for AFM. The OP is not forcing anyone to take upon his offer. This is very simple, he offers a session job for a fee. If you do not agree with the fee, you move on. Moreover, a session musician or vocalist will not be entitled to anything if they have agreed to a flat session fee and signed a session musician’s or vocalist's release. BTW, the average ongoing rate for session musicians in the USA is around $100 per hour. The session vocalist in this case is like a soldier. Nothing but a gun for hire. I just hope the OP also specifies in his contract that the singer also waives rights to integrity and false attribution.

Yeah I don't see anything wrong with the OP's post either, all the conditions have been made clear, and it's up to any interested party to agree or decline. There's plenty of beginners or amateurs offering their services for less on sites. I don't know the names of those sites anymore, but I do remember checking this out about a year ago. You probably can't expect much quality from most of those singers but hey, if they are happy with these rates, and if the producer is happy with what's delivered, then why not!

PS slightly off topic but you should all follow https://twitter.com/forexposure_txt on twitter, hilarious stuff there all the time!

I do believe people will do it for "exposure", to get a little fame.
It's the same as in photography. There is a huge amount of models who want to get in contact with experienced photographers. These people love to work for a good photographer (almost) without any payment besides of a couple of professionally taken photos from the shooting. This makes them more "famous" and will give them some maket value. A win/win situation.
    e.g. -> https://www.model-kartei.de/sedcards/model/

If there isn't something like that for vocalists out there, it would be a good idea to build up this kind of database.
