I don't really think pirating is a subject that we should be needlessly drawing attention to.

That's what I've always thought and I've made several comments just like yours over the years. But lately there seems to be no objections at all from the staff, mods,...

I've seen some pretty dumb ideas over the years, but this one steals the cake. By opening an app store for warez, you're just asking for trouble. Seriously.

What the fuck?? A fucking shop?? We already have them. Various Torrent sites, The sister site ETC ETC.... the concept of a "Shop" goes against everything that we all live up to. Sharing is caring. Although I do understand paying up for Private sites but that is all bout helping pay the server bill, never about the content. The O.P. really needs to learn the concept of sharing

We could ask the folks at plugin alliance for some server space, we could ask the vengeance team to handle the german translations, Arturia could be the same, with french,we could ask markus from take2 to implement a trojan horse, and Native instruments could handle all the Web traffic.

Now, you just need to donate 100'000 bucks to the jdownloader team I'm sure they will code a little add-on, in no time.

Why would they even bother? thats the point of PIA and Slates subscription model.
Either way you look at it, this is a ridiculous premise. I'll talk commercially.
Most developers are small businesses in a niche market that is heavily pirated. Some actually use wares like spotify. But we live in a world where nothing is valued and most of the plug in and sample market is flooded with garbage (much like music). Like any bussiness, you must get your costs back to sustain yourself, so its 2-3 years of making nothing before payday by which time it may be pirated. The trick is to make it cool enough with a great product for people to pay to support it. There are lots of free plugs out there and lots of free plugs with DAW's. Its a jungle

A host for cracked plugins? good luck with your bank robbery.

Ever heard of Cydia on the IOS platform? There are similar for Android. Such a thing does exist for warez apps so lets not pretend this is a horrible idea that has never been done before. I am not saying this is a good idea for music software, just saying, it is ignorant, or naive if you were not aware of warez stores, to believe that such a thing did not exist.

The justification people come up with for pirating software is humorous to me. Ill be straight up honest, I am a hypocrite in this regard. Software piracy is wrong, unethical, and immoral. We really shouldnt do it, even if it is just a hobby. I mean, we dont make this argument for other hobbies that involve hardware, yet, somehow, it is different when it involves software. I dont think anyone believes that it is ok to steal a car because, I just wanted to "try it" and maybe Ill delete it or return it when I am done with it after this undefined period of time, or, there is no way I would be able to afford a Jag, so Ill just take it without paying for it. Of course, I imagine explaining to a judge that, hey, I just stole the car because cars are my hobby, I dont actually make money having 200 cars, so I am justified in taking it without paying for it would go very far in a court room.

Yea yea, before anyone says, software is only bits, a copy of bits is not the same thing as manual labor that went into making each individual car, this is factored into the price of the car. Cars involved software and hardware. Work was involved in creating the software we use, even if the work was only done once and copies were made.

The fact is, a company will charge what it thinks the market will bear, and clones of that work plus piracy are factored into the price that is charged for a product.

As for me, I am conflicted on this issue. I have "copies" of just about every major orchestral library out there. I have spent $4000 legitimately purchasing orchestral libraries in the past two years. I dont make money writing music. It is a hobby for me. It is a very expensive hobby. Anyone that knows anything about orchestral libraries knows that $4000 is barely scratching the surface for orchestral libraries, these libraries tend to be the most expensive of any genre of music. Vienna Symphonic Library and Orchestral Tools has gotten the large majority of that $4000. I try to purchase libraries that I use most frequently, but I cannot afford the tens of thousands of dollars to buy all of these libraries. Does any of this make it right? No. However, we really need to be intellectually honest. Theft of software is not justifiable. However, if you make a good faith effort to purchase what you use most often, that is a good step in the right direction. We just need to take a step back from this and realize that both, making it easier to steal software and then using absurd arguments to justify theft is something we probably should not be doing.

It may not seem like it, but ethics does matter.

Why so hard? The best and easiest is an archive list (table with torrents + search form) of groups releases. We need "scene heaven" or "scene museum", not "zombie vintage plugins installer".

i'm not saying it's right but i do wanna say that it's better compared with copying music, and that goes years and years back, when we learned how to record music to a medium we learned how to copy, the 80's even had a whole industry around it called the cassette and it was perfectly legal (ok copying music was a grey area basically but unless you were selling it on a large scale nobody cared). it was just as immoral as warez are now the only difference being the internet. nothing has changed, back then plenty of people wanted the actual original physical product and went out and bought it. nowadays with warez the same thing is happening, plenty of people still want the actual original (sometimes physical box) product and they buy it.

just to give the guy a chance, i suspect he didn't mean store where you pay for warez, but more like an index, where you search for a warez release and it downloads and installs it for you?

if anyone knows about popcorn, probably something similar ?

I'm actually watching this thread and reading any new comments each morning during my daily commute: It's good to start the day in good mood with some laughing.

By the way, already two pages of comments and counting and not a single feedback from the OP: Come on, you don't have anything to reply to anyone here? Was it just a "trolling bomb" that was dropped on us?

Except, with music, you are taking away a very minor amount of money from the artists. Most artists made their money on tour. Sound libraries, you are literally taking away hundreds of dollars, sometimes thousands, from the people that create them, putting aside the technicalities of whether someone would buy them if they could afford them.

Copying music was very much illegal, but it was not enforced. There really was no way to enforce it, unless it was on a mass scale, and the people that got into trouble tried to sell copied music. Movies by the way fall into the same domain. Copying movies and music present the same challenge today as they did many moons ago, copies do not retain the original quality. Additionally, I like my movies and music to be in a format that I like. For music, that is going to be something like flac WITHOUT joint stereo (if you are still ripping cds with this option checked, you are a retard, and if you develop software that has this option enabled by default, you are also a retard). Ugg, this option is the bane of my existence. I digress, flac, without joint stereo, highest quality fast variable bit rate. This guarantees the highest quality, keeps the original stereo separation, without making the file bigger than it needs to be. For movies, I dont need anything other than English audio (generally speaking) and English subtitles and I can be flexible on the specific video codec, but I am partial to literally just ripping the bluray and keeping the files as they originally were formatted on the disk, less the non-English stuff. The majority of stuff I watch is documentaries, specifically, nature and astronomy, and I like to have the highest quality available. Sadly, most of what you find on the web is lower quality or is not formatted for my needs, hence, the reason I purchase my content. I watch plenty of content through less than legal means, but this content is generally content I will not watch a second time.

Software and sounds are different than music and movies because, what I get from the internet is largely the same as what I get if I purchased legitimately. In fact, specifically in the case of movies vs sounds and software, warez generally provides me the option to use the product how I want without the bull shit limitations that companies place on their software arbitrarily, a point that is also worth considering. I would love to be able to use my Vienna Symphonic Library sounds without carting around a USB dongle and having to deal with the elicenser bullshit, sadly, no one seems willing to crack the elicenser, which is weird, since ilok has pretty much been cracked wide open.
