lawsuit accuses Lady Gaga of stealing ‘Shallow’ from a SoundCloud singer

Discussion in 'Industry News' started by Fudsey Plange, Aug 12, 2019.

  1. Specifically, Lady Gaga is the subject of a lawsuit alleging that she plagiarised a little-known singer-songwriter, Steve Ronsen, for her massive song “Shallow”, which she sang with Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born. The basis of his claim is that the hook of “Shallow” is based on just a similar three-note progression – G, A, B – from his 2012 song, “Almost”.

    ...

This isn’t actually the first time Lady Gaga has been accused of copyright infringement (as is probably to be expected with such a huge artist). In 2016, she was sued, unsuccessfully, by the artist French video artist Orlan for her imagery in the “Born This Way” video. Artnet reports that Orlan ended up paying the singer and Universal $18,000 in fees.

It's laughable, really. But the guy went from 38 followers to 41 followers on Soundcloud.

...or Em, Dadd9/F#, G progression. But it's so hard not to.

Sounds to me like Steve Ronsen was inspired by Dust In The Wind

After listening to the track, it's probably his best chance of making any money in the music business.

  7. I liked this one a lot (uploaded 5 years ago):

More melodical and lovely than today's songs in all genres.

Ronsen, you are a phony musician and a crook. I hope you get a sick because of the con money you will possibly get. And use them for med bills.

    3 chords and the melody is build with 3 chord notes Em D/F# G - Melody 3rd-Em / 5th-D / 3rd-G.
Sad that you can get sued today for that stock writing.

Sure, I can hear the similarities. Unfortunately, the way the music industry works now, that is what is left of it, copyright is a grey area.
The moment people allowed Hip-hop in the late 1990s to use samples without infringement, the can of worms has never been sealed.
When anyone puts a song or tune out on the Internet on a streaming site, they take a risk that someone with money may hear it and possibly steal it.

I wish it was not true that some well known people have stolen other music, but it is.
The real truths most people will never know. Let's say the song was hypothetically stolen as an example, would Gaga say so? She'd have to be pretty stupid and say she stole it.

I think this has to be corrected . Only 3 chords ? Why not 2 chords , or 4 notes similarity , why not a lawsuit for the length of silence what you find after a song on an 80 audio cassette ...

  17. You're so generous. With your heroic deed, you'd be sued and he will get some money for food and a piece of clothing to cover himself.

  18. A creative artist doesn't need to analyze other people's works to get ideas from them or even doesn't need to be afraid of his/her artworks are stolen. In creativity, ideas are born. Only non-creative artists waste their times to do that.

  20. But learning is another story than direct usage. For learning, everyone is allowed to get whatever meters of rope to hang themselves.
