Our software recognizes over 35 million songs

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Fudsey Plange, Aug 11, 2019.

  1. That's a claim made by Zortam, makers of a ubiquitous MP3 tagger. If you never slept, and if you assume each song is 3 minutes long, it would take over 204 years to listen to every song.

Does the world really need more music?

I think the period where "the world" doesn't need more music ended ~100 years ago.

  4. This is the keyword in your post. More than 34 million of those songs are not music so less than 1 million remains. If you would be a skillful seeker, you can find your favorite 10000 songs in just a month.

History has seen lots of composers, but only a few of them have been able to catch the hearts of listeners forever.

I guess it's the usual, ethnocentric "35 million AMERICAN/BRITISH songs". As far as I know, there've been about 500 million songs around the world. Time to reconfigure your math?

It wouldn't recognise mine, I can barely recognise them as songs myself.

I think "the world" needs more interesting/quality music...... most of what I hear these days are totally nonsens and crap.... primitive lyrics, chord changes and melodies heard 10.000 times before. Basically is the popular music we have access to today so limited - all in ONE direction and most of it completely shite.

I can recomment going back to roots like jazz (especially bebop) and traditional music worldwide and classic music as well if you want inspiration!

    My 50 cents

I don't see gender-hate anywhere here but I do see elitism/snobbishness, which is almost impossible to avoid talking about music and pretty much everything especially in social sites all over the net. Guilty myself a few times.

I welcome 1 zillion more songs before I die, only by statistics many of them will be good and some awesome.
If the ones saying "there isn't good new music anymore" (give or take) are talking about who deserves to make more money and who doesn't yes, that's an incredibly complex and interesting topic.

    Otherwise, welcome more songs.

  13. This is a consequence of simplification or changing the natural route of the music.

  17. I want to run, I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls that hold me inside
I wanna reach out and touch the flame
