Even some Samsung "Smart" TVs record video EVEN WHEN THE TV IS OFF!! I read it somewhere. Maybe it is not true, but it is a good idea. A camera located near the remote sensor of the TV has a better view than CCTV

Your phone tracks you, the services running on your phone track you, Google tracks you, Facebook tracks you, Amazon tracks you, Ebay tracks you, everyone tracks you. FYI, the ad services here on audiosex are tracking you, and dont tell me they arent, I can see 9 different services just from this one page that are used for tracking purposes. You cant use the internet without being tracked.

To put this all on Microsoft is ignorant and intellectually dishonest.

For the time being, its all so that they can feed you ads for things I just bought...frankly, this is the least of my concerns, tho it still bothers me... However, I always get a laugh... when I just ordered a mouse on Amazon for example, it never fails, for the next three days, I see ads for mice. I do a search on Ebay for guitars and for the next week, Im seeing ads for guitars...

Now, if this begins to enter into the realm of law enforcement using circumstantial evidence to lay out a case against me, that is where this begins to enter a scary picture.

Does it bother me? Yes. Even tho I am not a criminal, nor have I done anything to be embarrassed about, it bothers me, and this mass invasion of privacy should bother everyone, regardless of whether you "have something to hide" or not.

Consider this, would you be ok putting a camera in your bedroom and bathroom that broadcasts a live video feed of what it captures? Most people would say, of course not. Even tho you are not doing anything wrong, it doesnt mean you dont want your private life made public. We, as human beings, have a Right to privacy, not because there is anything nefarious going on, but because, we should have the Right to keep certain things private. What we do in public is one thing, being filmed in public is one thing, being filmed in private, tracking what I do in my own home over the internet or how I use my devices, that is an entirely different matter.

Watch your language or be more specific. You make a statement like that without clarifying who is the ignorant and intellectually dishonest you are referring to and it can be taken the wrong way.

Eh, I was pretty clear in my language. We need to get over people being offended so easily ffs. The first paragraph makes it pretty clear who I am talking about, if you think Microsoft is the only company doing this, that is ignorant. If you believe Microsoft is the biggest offender, that is doubly ignorant. Every example I gave in the first paragraph are bigger offenders in the privacy debate than Microsoft is, with exception to the audiosex example. By the way, if you think Linux isnt doing much of the same tracking, that is also ignorant. Last time I installed Ubuntu, with all the garbage it brings along with it, it was pretty obvious. If you think you can avoid being tracked and use modern technology, that is ignorant.

In point of fact, the internet is built on tracking and tracing. Look into how packets are delivered on the internet. Why do you think you have an IP address? The internet wouldnt function without it. I mean, how do you think syn/ack packets would work without tracking?

    He just didn't say that.

I basically agree with what you told before. But then out of the blue you bring insults for non-existing reasons, and you kill your own credibility. It's not just what we say, it's also how.

It's not just MicroDick that spies on us. Literally every company does it. If, for example, you use chrome as your browser, everything you do gets sent to google. We are being tracked ALL the time and companies make it harder and harder to disable tracking.

On one side, yes, we should not feel offended so easily.
On the other side, before throwing "ignorant" and so words, we should be more curious and ask people what they think exactly, instead of speaking with prejudice.

I'm pretty sure that everyone knows he is being tracked what ever device and system he is using.
So the topic of this thread is to point to a specific situation and technique used by Microsoft, not to say that other enterprises don't do it.
Just to add to the paranoia, have a look to how much cameras there are in your town's streets.
Have you been asked and or advised by the authorities that they were going to be installed. Have you read any document about their exact use?

For me this debate is already old.

In logic, the statement, "if" is a conditional statement. It usually follows with some sort of a "then" statement. It comes in the form of, "If this then that". It is used in programming alot. What it says is, the part following the if part of the statement, if it is true, then the part following the then statement is also true. If A is true, then B is also true. if you think Microsoft is the only company doing this, that is ignorant. If you believe Microsoft is the biggest offender, that is doubly ignorant. Microsoft is not the only company doing this, and there are bigger offenders than Microsoft by a long shot. Both statements are true and ignorance is the exact correct word for this, because the information is out there on how much you are being tracked by other companies, it is wilful blindness that you choose to see otherwise.

As to using a blackberry, and not being tracked... lol... you think your cellphone company isnt tracking you through the use of your blackberry?

That's something very true and already said, but I think is important to elaborate more on that. Regarding official spying by the big companies.

Windows is by far the most used desktop OS. Partly because of that, partly because compared to Mac OS is clearly more open, is the most studied and "hacked" (in the good sense). That's why Windows users are generally more aware of spying.

What I'm saying is Mac OS "spies" way more and since way before Windows. Probably with Windows 10 the gap has closed.

Smartphones and tablets. And related PC software (Chrome): they're newer and tightly integrated with internet. Forget about privacy no matter what the companies say. Even more than Windows 10, the OS have been designed from scratch with data control in mind.

One of the big business today is data smuggling. Legit or not. Tech companies say "it's for security, customer service improvement program". Governments say "it's for the fight against the crime/terrorism". Other companies/lobbies/whatever behind we don't know them, but I bet they are more sincere with their data business with tech companies and governments and say: "it's for the money"

@Xupito haha yeah it's very official when Google puts the fact that they're literally spying on your every move and tracking your location and what app you use, on like the one millionth page of their terms of service.
