Granted Groban is very talented, I think this microphone brings out a very warm character. If anybody knows what microphone this is, that would be appreciated. Thank you.

Its either a original Telefunken/Neumann U47 or U48. You also have to consider that the microphone is just one part of the signal chain.

In a studio that is using a vintage u47, you also probably have to consider they are probably using some high end outboard gear as well, so you have to factor the preamp, or any compressors or eq's they may have also used to shape the sound. You also have to account for how much the mix also shaped the sound after recording.

Yup probably good old Neumann U47
It is said there were 8 different types of it which vary only slightly in size and the different transformers that were built in.

Although there where certainly other sound altering processes involved during recording, the mic is known for its clear sound, with a distinct emphasis in the upper-mids.

Its a large diaphragm condenser mic and has a vacuum tube circuitry and was manufactured during the years 1949-1965. George Martin loved it and Frank Sinatra had his own U47.

Nowadays Sennheiser produces a U47 FET - a reissue of the 1970 Neumann U47 FET which was an attempt to create a successor

  5. That's a vintage U47 and the big cable in makes me think that's the VF tube variant. If so that nobnerd is spitting off-axis into around ten thousand dollars worth of unscreened capsule.

Right. It's all things considered. Reverb is also one of the main factors contributing to the tone of this vocal chain. It's nearly a solo performance as well. So most of the low presence of the vocal can stay, as it doesn't require the degree of filtering/attenuating as it would if it had to sit in a heavily weighted song with drums and bass dominating those areas.

The mic is one of the U-47s from Abbey Road Studios. This one has the EMI metal plate on it.

Why, does she own a 47?
I wonder if that's why Rick Springfield wanted her so badly ;)
