I am a guitarist and, no I don't like using ampsoftware, but sometimes it's a neccesary evil ( since my neighbours REALLY don't like real amps ;-))I find the Scuffham S-GearAmps to be closest to the feel of a real amp. I highly recommend to try it out! Cheers

I´m also a guitarist played for over 35 years
I have own several amps both tube and solid state over the years
I agree that amp software dont come near playing thrue a REAL amp
"soundwise they are very close but not there yet it lacks something that i cant explain"

But the FEEL is not there yet not on Scuffham or any other amp software.
Scuffham to me is like every other software but i like the marshall model it is one of the best in the modeling buisness..

I have tried almost all of them.
Not Eleven since i dont have an ilook and not Amp Farm for TDM since i dont have Pro Tools HD and not the ones that comes with Logic and Digital Performer since i dont have a Mac...

But as you say they are very good if you wants to practice in the middle of the night at low volume or with headphones.

And also to record "ideas" quickly..

I prefer to record a real amp but i believe no matter how much those nutheads
(those who say they can hear the difference to a real amp and an amp-sim no matter what) dont agree that YOU CANT hear if it is a real amp or an amp-sim if it is burried in a mix

    Absolutely true !

And the thing musicians forget, is that 99% (Probably more) of the average listeners don't hear it, and more than probably don't give a fuck to know if it's a real amp or not !

So who cares if a few sound geeks think that "amp modeling" sucks... You don't record music for them.

Of course if I had the choice, gear, knowledge and room for that I would go for a real amp (Just for the pleasure to own and use "real" things) but I use an Eleven Rack, and it's just the best and fast gear I ever used AT HOME. (Here I'm not talking about recording studios which is, to me, a very different matter, but still, if the sound engineer knows how to make it sound badass, what's the big deal ? Motley Crue recorded their Saints Of LA album on Eleven Rack a few years ago and more and more bands do probably the same)
