FAB is all you need to block your DAW's and other software from calling home. I use it myself and got rid of Comodo and ZoneAlarm for good.

If you could give more details about the functionality of your firewall, it would be easier to take a decision. Also som screenshot would be welcome.
I don't use ZoneAlarm as a firewall only. It also tells me of each and every attempt to modify system files or use privileges etc... And it includes a antivirus. It's complete protection suite.

A different question: What are its advantages over other lightweight firewall apps like Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control?

 

Seems interesting. The problem with such security-sensitive apps is that you want 'em backup by:
a) trusted company (not your case)
b) open source community feedback and possible fixes. That's why I agree with @Haliax

I like the fact that you can select a folder and block all its contents.

 

I have been using another with same name
Firewall App Blocker v1.6 by Sordum @sordum.org.
Last updated in 2017 but still does the job.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what's wrong with only using the built-in Windows Defender Firewall?

 

I'm not to familiar either but I'm going to assume the process with Win only is "alot" more convoluted whereas this Tool makes the process simple. Load a folder or File extension and now its blocked in 3 clicks.
