Simply power off your gear when plugging/unplugging.
You should do this everytime though.

guessing from youre likes : i would say : buy model d or roland, blofeld, old groovebox  from korx, or roland or yamaha, eventide blackhole, alesis quadra verb,dbx160,some delay, reberb, etc pedals from boss, electro harmonix, etc, maybe a drummachine from korx old or behringer new...
maybe try ot some klark technic dynamics proccessor units...
hardware samplers are not convenient in nowadays digi box times but they are great anyway in so much ways...

so fill your in outs which are available right now...and have fun...

@Marcsal To be clear, when I mentioned the MIDAS, Allen & Heath, and Soundcraft, I should have been more specific as to which model. I was referring to MIDAS M32 ( not the R model), Allen & Heath SQ/46, and the Soundcraft Si Impact. Another thing, don't drink the Behringer is the same as the MIDAS koolaid. They are not. Only people saying that are BEhringer ( who can't be truassted) and clients (who fell for Behringer's marketing BS) When it comes to recording they don't sound the same way. The pre amplifiers are NOT the same. In fact, the preamps in the Behringer are NOT MIDAS preamps. That is the reason why I did not include the Behringer.

That's exactly what we all meant when we said he doesn't need a mixer.

Sure, and that's why major touring acts don't care and list Behringer X32 in their technical riders :)

I don't want to go off topic here but out of curiosity I would like to know which major touring acts are using the X32 as their main. If you don't mind, please PM a list if you have it. I am curious because the quality of the preamps is not the only difference. The Midas has latency-compensated buses designed for live performances. There is latency in the X32 by way of FX. Even for live performance, Midas M32 is superior.

I'm no longer recording bands, but just in case, I bought a Presonus Digimax LT for $50. I tested it using an adat cable into my Babyface and the mic preamps sounds sound warm yet clear and really, really good. Recording at 48 is no problem.

I think our Pirate didn't mean the X32 is a bad console, in fact it's a good deal for the price, but
'32 Midas-designed, fully programmable mic preamps', Behringer statement.
    Not 'Midas preamps'.

    And you can
    Frequency Range

    THD

    Intermodulation-Distortion

Thank you. :like: Never said the Behringer was bad, only said the M32 is better and within the OP's budget. Anyone that thinks that sonically they are the same needs to go to a dealer and do a comparison.

I dont know if you were being sarcastic but @Lois Lane answer although I appreciate it, it isnt one that satisfies what I had in mind. I dont think theres a best answer here. There are a lot of good answers for which I thank everyone

Well, the -0.3dB drop is nothing you can't fix by using EQ or placing your mic different. And if you can have something blasting right at 0dB and still tell apart something 90dB quieter and something 100dB quieter then you must have really great hearing.

    No I wasn't sarcastic.
With 50$ you can connect 4 stereo instruments or 8 mono in addition to your Focusrite's inputs. What do you expect better?!It's the best deal.

And you can buy a new interface if you don't like your Focusrite, now or in the future.Look a RME UC/UCX for example.
