Hey guys,

I've been getting this issue with my Presonus Eris 4.5 where I'm getting pops and clicks from the monitors even when they aren't being used by the DAW or anything.

My sample rate is set to 48K and connected with my interface properly plus I am running a very good pc to handle any buffer based issues.

I feel like this is coming from some type of bad connection...

Any ideas?

 

Tits, you have a dirty/faulty power line. You need to clean it. Also make sure they are not close to a modem or router.

Windows 10? Try install Latencymon. Start it for 10 min without anything else running. Post a screenshot of this (after 10 min):

 

Bro, the way to find out if it is a faulty/dirty power line and not your speakers, cables, DAW, or soundcard is simple.

You need to disconnect every wire but power cord from the speakers. Do you hear noise?
if you hear noise move speaker around? Noise? Go to different outlets in the house.No noise? Then, it is the outlet where your DAW is at. You then need a power conditioner.
If no noise, now you try your headphones in same output where you had speakers connected. No noise? Move on.
Now you connect the wire from soundcard to speaker. Noise? Change wire. Noise?

 

It has nothing to do with his DAW. The popping is not about latency.

 

I've switched the screen monitor cable and Power Supply cable around and the pops stopped, but we'll have to see if it comes back again...

Not necessarily so. The voltage will fluctuate so it is neither a constant noise nor a pretty loud noise per se. Sometimes it is barely audible.

Come on tits! you electrocuted yourself or what?

 

Sometimes there can be clicks and pops when people in the same building (using the same power) turn on electrical devices, causing a surge. I've had that even here where we have healthy and shielded/grounded power. Is that what you are talking about? Or is the pops constant and often reoccuring?

 

I think you are the most accurate. Yeah I only get the pops every now and then, it has to do with my monitors taking some ground from probably my screen monitor cable. I've swapped them around and the popping stopped but we'll have to see if it will return...

It sounds like you are already working it out but I wanted to add that I had this issue before and it turned out to be electronic interference from nearby power lines.. there was no fix in that situation...

 

ok bitches update:

so it seems like it isn't coming from screen and PSU cables being in the wrong places, turned on the speakers today and still getting them little pops and clicks. Gtta do more research and figure out where the ground is coming from...

One thing for sure is that it's probably getting some ground from somewhere so I'll have to do some cleaning, swapping, masturbating and I'll figure it out...

 

Can you record those pops and upload them here?

 

Sounds like a dirty circuit. I'm in the same boat at home. You could try to connect your mains to another power-group.
