I am in need of some great jazz brass samples that do not sound synthetic. I currently have Glory Days by Orchestral tools, and while I love the quality of the samples it still sounds plastic. Are there any great sample packs that are great for jazz brass? Thank you

I still like Broadway Big Band by Fablesounds. It is quite massive, but it's dry and has some fairly easy to use multis for that big band / section sound. I still like the stacc stuff from Glory Days - worth digging into the short artics, most of the stuff that isn't looped sounds great, blends rly well. In a lot of ways, the little valvey changes in (ie) trumpets sounds lovely and playable to me, just a shame about some of the synthy timbres and wetness.

 

If you have Ableton this is amazing:

ProjectSAM.Big.Band.Essentials.v1.1.ALP

This sounds incredibly amazing and it's just 700 MB

 

Have a look at Mojo2 from Vir2.
Also worth considering Session Horns Pro from NI (a bit dated but still good IMHO).

BTW I'm surprised that you found the Orchestral Tools library sounding synthetic as they are supposed to be one of the best, also reflected by their asking price.

 

Your programming and playing is plastic. No sample library will do the job, if you don't make it work.
