Apple's computer strategy is cringeworthy... MacOS is what makes the system noticeably more stable then windows. Then they taint the hardware to maintain ironclad control on systems that don't create much profit margin to begin with. Hense intense buttfondling through Applecare repaircenters (which is more of just a retail trick strategy over "repair" center). It seems selling MacOS upgrades for 300bucks again while loosening up on the low priority less profitable hardware issues could be a way to add valuable high margin inventory and also give pro users more flexibility to get a computer tailored to individual specific needs.

Some keep saying PC's are going to become more comparible to Mac's efficiency with processing after the ARM switch, will be interesting to see if they can't corner more of the pro market leaving Apple to choke on their unholy iphone customerbase.

I dont care what anybody says. Im a fresh convert and Mac's are insanely more efficient.
You buy a PC if you wana sit and tinker with it constantly.
You buy a Mac to get to work!

  9. It's a rotten "apples versus oranges" debate that keeps coming back like a bad penny. "PC" just means "personal computer", which is generally not a meaningful distinction. It is not a kind, it is a use-case. Things I would compare against a PC might be a workstation, or a server. And many of the best audio computer setups I have encountered I would say qualify more as workstations.

If we wanted to compare hardware, it would need to be by manufacturer. Like Apple versus Dell, or ASUS versus Raspberry Pi. If we wanted to compare operating systems we would also probably compare against other versions of the same OS as well, like macOS 10.6 VS macOS 10.11 VS Windows 7 VS Windows 10. And most OS's are used across multiple use-cases - like seeing Windows 10 installed in servers, workstations, and personal computers.

Basically... end-users like to argue what they see as the technical merits, while also playing rather loose with the terminology/classification.

If you take your time & put together a solid PC based system, you will be much rewarded in the end with flexibility & savings. Not to mention the dual Xeon CPU boards that can be had at the desktop/workstation level.

And oh yeah, whatever you do, don't make your work computer look like a tricked out game computer.

Spend the money on solid hardware & low maintenance cooling (cooling tower/heatsink & fan). Water cooling is a leak waiting to happen along with the constant cleaning to keep water flow. You still need fans anyway for the radiator(s) so, why not just get the huge cooling tower for the CPU & call it day.

Macs are quite lovely for what they do while they are working but, when they break, be ready to put out some serious cash. Even under warranty if Apple forces it's will.

I use both . a HP Z800 and Mac Pro 5.1 - both workstations - but the Z800 got reinstalled more times then I can count on my fingers - the Mac never crashes or has to reinstall - only updates are a pain since Mojave.

I once had the money to buy a new Mac. I ended up with a Windows system and a used Sequential Circuits Pro 1 instead. I thought it was the better deal

Music doesn't write itself - Stop trying to change people's minds, I don't care if my mac is slower or faster than yours I just want to concentrate on writing good music, end of the story.

Macs are only slower if you decide for a model with a fan-less design.
That's indeed an important factor to consider.
No cpu can sustain full performance for a while without active cooling, which is especially important in audio and video production.

Written and posted by another Apple coward... supported by a hoard of Mac-fearing pu$$ies. I have 3 Macs running my studio and my PC can almost handle my emails... except for all the viruses it contracts, otherwise I can use it as a wheel chock.
