I have a PCI Texas Instruments firewire card in my PC and something is driving me NUTS about it!

It has a power connecter on the PCI card itself. It's a 4 pin connector and look a lot like an older floppy style 4 pin connector. However, it's a different socket as when trying to insert a floppy connector it kind bend the connecto away from the pcb, uncofmrotably so. Therefore, there must be another type of small 4 pin connector. I've searched all over to no avail.

Anybody got any ideas???? This is the care and the power connector is the small white socket on the back corner...

That's a Berg connector (aka floppy power connector). It bends for better contact, especially if the build quality of card and/or cable is rather low.

Hey, i know i haven't posted for ages but anyway Supposedly this lil port is used for giving additional power to the card. The port is identical to a PWM fan header port. I believe you can use a pc fan header splitter cable connected to your power supply to power it.

 

you guys are funny this is not needed in any semi-modern computer the card is buss powered don't worry about it the PCI slot with providing enough power unless your using all 3 connectors that require to deliver power as well. Its meant to use the same power connector that would power a floppy drive ( if your using this for a MOTU audio interface use the power adapter that come with the interface not just buss power

I know that seems redundant looking the Amazon link but I determined that before I looked at the link

 

It's nice at least one of us is amused. Of course it's powered by the pci slot, i have 2 of these somewhere in my old peripherals drawer. The additional power is optional and not needed for audio cards. My old - identical TI powered - FW cards, used to run a Tascam 1884 and an old MOTU on a different pc and i never bothered what the additional power connector does.
Oh, and the 4pin BERG connector on floppy drives is identical to motherboard fan headers which makes it more explainable if i may say so, since floppies are practically extinct. So, to sum it if the user wants to try his luck powering the card as well, he can use one of these extenders connected to his power supply's molex and see what he gets. Cheers

XIO2213B chipset FireWire cards are recommended for new builds (Windows 10). Other chipsets and old PCI cards can cause you headache. Latency/drivers issue is a known factor for Firewire cards. Another thing I noticed is that the card you link to only has PCI not PCIe. You need a PCI to PCIe adapter for it to function on new motherboards.
Not worth the headache when the cards are so cheap.

with all the respect to your choices and various solutions;

if you want to keep using outdated firewire, then get an old outdated computer which natively supports it
OR
get an up-to-date device with different bus (usb, thunderbolt etc..) so it will work with nowadays computers without problems (hopefully)

it will save you lots of hassle, believe me

 

I really don't get the angry "just upgrade" type comments?! My machine has an i7 4960X 6 core/12 thread overclocked to 4.4GHz, 64GB of RAM, 2TB worth of SSDs, a GTX 1660Ti graphics card and cooled with liquid coolers like the H150i Pro. I have no reason to upgrade performance wise!

This FireWire card is used solely because it is the only card that allows the usage of the awesome Liquid Mix (think of it as a predecessor to Softube Console 1) via a detailed guide I have posted in these forums.Therefore, upgrading or buying a newer FireWire card or interface is a pointless comment to make in light of my usage of my computer.

No offence, just bringing it back to the original query....

Yup. Liquid Mix has never officially been supported by Focusrite for Windows 10. However, I found a way to get it working and others have got it working too, though is specific to a certain Texas Instruments chipset card and won't work on VIA chipset cards. It's a long winded method and needing to use legacy drivers etc, but worth it as the Liquid Mix emulations are of UAD kind of quality in my opinion but with more customisations available.

 

No, typical fan connectors are Molex, not Berg. They have a different pinout and will damage the hardware it you manage to connect them somehow.

I have not had any issues with Win7 or win 10. I do not have the power hooked up since it is getting the power from the pcie buss.
WIn10 has issues with audio as has been stated here in other posts.
