    Hi,

I have around 200 wav files I need to convert to mp3 (on mac) at the moment I'm using "Switch Converter" which loses metadata after the mp3 conversion. Is there any software out there that converts to mp3 and keeps all the relevant metadata after conversion?

    Imac 27inch (late 2012) 3.4Ghz i7, 32gig ram,
    OSX 10.12.6 Cubase Pro 10/VEP 5

    Thanks in advance

dBpoweramp Music Converter is always my go to, it has also LAME 3.100 which is the best encoding for mp3's.
    Latest Mac release is R16.5.

Could you be more specific on what metadata you need to be retained?

Hello Friend,i dont think that there is any metadata on wave file (beside file name and header),so maybe specify what data you mean.

There are the riff cluster, but its as i know impossible to read & wright easely on that

this is what i found just on the go:

    What is the header?
The header is the beginning of a WAV (RIFF) file. The header is used to provide specifications on the file type, sample rate, sample size and bit size of the file, as well as its overall length.

    and the file name,thats all.

    Usefull Link:

i go for flac files all the time couse of vorbis comments, they easy to tag and if you convert to other than Wave files you can preserv the meta data...!

    Edit:
Found something that i did not know for my time being...my be look on this one:

The metadata I use is Track Name, Track Description, Track search tags, Master/Publishing ownership rights and splits, PRS No, and contact details. All these details must be inbeded to a wav file otherwise you won't get paid. :like:

Just looked a little for you and found some tools to extract metadata from wave files, but they are just for Linux and win.

If i where you I would convert them as mp3,extract the metadata from the wave files and name the new mp3's by hand!

I mean...if you do it for cash then it might be not to tedious.

You may wanna try Audacity. When you export a wave file as mp3, it asks about metadata information. I didn't tried but maybe it can see some from the wave file. For 200 files, you can export multiple as you export stems. Just an idea.

Thanks, everyone I contacted "switch" as all other software was unable to retain the metadata and I updated my vsn and now everything is fine.

OK, you've done it... but I'd be surprised if foobar2000 cannot do it. Typically you use it in conjunction with lame.exe (or other converters) from rarewares.org
