Hi all , just wondering if there is a good way to recreate the brass stabs in this legendary song.

    stabs start at 1:13

what instruments are there in this arrangement ? is it possible to recreate something similar using kontakt plugins.

    Best Answer
    "I Wish" (Wonder) – 4:12
    • Stevie Wonder – lead vocals, Fender Rhodes, ARP 2600 synthesizer, vocoder, drums
    • Nathan Watts – bass guitar
    • Hank Redd – alto saxophone
    • Trevor Lawrence – tenor saxophone
    • Raymond Maldonado – trumpet
    • Steve Madaio – trumpet
    • Renee Hardaway - vocals ("you nasty boy!")
Tenor is playing lower register which sounds like a trombone in the track.
    Trumpet 1 playing middle/lower register.
Trumpet 2 & Alto playing upper register.

It might be possible to get something that sounds authentic with libraries like Session Horns, Mojo or Broadway.
Of course it will involve a lot of key switching and MIDI editing.
    Good luck!

Ugh! No. Occasionally useful. But no.
Fable Sounds Broadway Big Band, Orchestral Tools Glory Days - Big Band Horns, and Impact Soundworks Straight Ahead Jazz Horns are by far the best Kontakt brass libs there are.
But the Samplemodeling stuff is also very useful too, when mixed with something from the above libs.
I started off with Mojo and the Chris Hein stuff. Then I won Session Horns from e-instruments, and loved it so much, but had to get Session Horns Pro because it's way more versatile as the instruments are separate.
Just as the orch people do, I find it's best to layer different products to get what I want.

Thanks for all the responses, especially Quadcore 64 for the arrangement details.

This video has something similar at 3.34 seconds for mojo horns kontakt library falls sound.

Oooo, yes! I forgot about the new version of Mojo. I only have the original. I can't afford Mojo 2 yet, and I can't afford the storage space! lol
    It is great.
Don't get me wrong; the sound of BFA Funk Soul Horns 2 is nice, but I usually need way more articulations than that.

Even the original Chris Hein Horns 1, 2, 3 & 4 from tiiime ago, like over a decade I think, is better than that.
If you think Latin Urban sounds good, check out even Big Fish Audio Funk Soul Horns 2, which I'd say offers the least out of the list I gave in my other post. Or even the first Mojo from tiiime ago, too!

Thanks for all this detailed information. I have session horns pro , do you use the pitchwheel to articulate the brass stabs ? or is there a better method ? In the above mojo video, you can choose between short/medium/long falls. Does session horns pro have the same options ? the effect is taking too long just using the pitch wheel

SHP has the option for, I think, 1 bar, 2 bar, or 4 bar crescendos. And if IRC, the falls and doits if done by the pitchwheel can be different speeds depending on where the pitchwheel is. But not with the exactness of the Mojo 2 example. Although if one tinkers with the pitch wheel info after recording it, this could be tailored to perfect the timing.
I'm not at my audio rig right now, so this is just off the top of my head; I hope I've remembered correctly! Maybe someone else will chime in.
Ah. So if you mean that at full up/down/whatever it is, that it's still taking too long, then I guess that for the particular track you are working on at that tempo, that SHP can't do it quick enough.

Theyre kind of a blend of staccato and a fall for the first parts in the chorus. With some CC automation you should be able to get something similar.

i always appreciate classical sounds from stevie wonders
    :keys: :grooves::speaker:
its fantastic composition ,and i agree, the brass stab add more coolness to the track
but the real deal here are the drums + bass and the guitars combined with stevie wonders vocals
and the way hes singing is what makes this song a legendary production

and it still melodically better sound than the wild wild west will smith ripoff song

good luck antony finding those brass stabs
and please dont hesitate to drop us a demo .i for one very interested to hear a demo how this will turn out :mates:
