An excerpt from wikipedia which I believe to be true as I have followed Grime since It's inception

Grime emerged in the early 2000s in London. It has origins tied with UK pirate radio stations such as Rinse FM,[19] Deja Vu FM, Major Fm, Freeze 92.7 and Raw Mission. At this point, the style was known by a number of names, including 8-bar (meaning eight-bar verse patterns), nu shape (which encouraged more complex 16-bar and 32-bar verse patterns), sublow (a music style and movement created by Jon E Cash with Dread D (T Williams) and crew "The Black Ops",[20] the name sublow being a reference to the very low bassline frequencies[21], often around 40 Hz) and eskibeat, a term applied specifically to a style initially developed by Wiley and his collaborators, incorporating dance and electro elements. This indicated the movement of UK garage away from its house influences towards darker themes and sounds. Among the first tracks to be labelled "grime" as a genre in itself were "Eskimo", "Ice Rink" and "Igloo" by Wiley, "Pulse X" by Musical Mob and "Creeper" by Danny Weed.[22]

Now some words from my perspective:

As stated above the origins of the 'first' grime song and even the name of the genre itself were debatable during it's inception. Wiley made a now classic song called 'Wot U Call It' as a way of projecting his unique style, which he called 'Eskimo'. This has now led to him being known as the 'Godfather' of Grime

Wiley - Igloo: The unique square bass defines the 'Eskimo' sound which is the instrumental for the song 'Wot U Call It' which I will also post below

Miami Freestyle. This one is the original version. The one that started it all. Name of group was Xposed. The lead singer was Alejandra Lorenzo. The group later became known as Expose, and all 3 singers were replaced.

Tune was a favourite of mine as late 80‘s, bought the single cd years later after identified the tune thru a mailorder shop. Back then it could take years to get to know the name of a specific tune, and again some time to be able to buy it. No shazam, no forums, no streaming platforms. And that made those tunes even more special

Triphop, evolved from boom bap instrumental hiphop, and instead of keeping space for lyricists, more solo instruments are added and song structures are implemented. Its not easy for me to choose a certain tune which started the genre, but the first 12inch i bought was this mowax single with shadow & krush on flipside, kemuri tune beeing an archetype tune for the genre. Although ninjatune with 9lazy9 , funky porcini , dj food where there as well, or before.

TripHop a bit later started to really get popular due to bristol, which brought massive attack (blue lines 1992 may be the real starting point) , portishead & tricky on the map. Dope drums with song structure & instrumentation & female singers was the formula , bands like morcheeba , sneakerpimps did there thing, many others followed.
But at the core, it came from hiphop instrumentals from the states meeting european song structure & instrumentation.

This post is kind of work in process , teach us on this genre if u can please.
I played alot computer games , c64/amiga 500 as a kid, and had much love for a lot great game soundtracks.
That genre i would call tracker music , made with specific programs only accessible on those machines. The oldest tune i know that sounded like tracker music before tracker music is that one from 1977. If one in here is capable of more accurate information about the genre, help out.

As you stated, Trackers were not around back them. Trans Euro Express uses a custom built 16 step sequencer they named The Synthanorma Sequenzer built by studio Matten & Wiechers.

Similar as triphop, chillwave was a short-lived subgenre evoluted from hiphop, with european songwriting influences. Kind of a stepchild of the postdilla beattape culture 2006-2010, its hard to point out a specific track, but those that got popular in the beginning are those:
    Toro Y Moi

Before Kraftwerk there was Raymond Scott who invented one of the first electro magnetic sequencers in the 1940's, and is credited with inventing the polyphonic sequencer, and also the first self composing synth, the Electronium. Some of his work was posthumously released in 2000.

Italo Disco One of best songs in this genre. I'm ready by Kano. A great example of the transformation of disco into electro, techno, and hip-hop. It’s the evolution of dance music at work. I love this song!

This track from 1983 by Charanjit Singh (and all the "Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat" album), it didn't start or define the movement, but it's surely can be seen as a starting point for Acid house, and also the goa trance sound

And more famously, this track from Mr. Oizo, the starting point for all the fidget house scene, and its more actual "childrens" like bass house and G-house

This one is more a derivation from 80s electro, but it's the track that start all the electroclash sound, with artist like Miss Kittin and the Hackers, Vitalic or Erol Alkan. So by extension, it launch all the electro house sound (a more "club friendly" version of electroclash) with track like "Satisfaction" by Benassi

@Retrolize77 Here is another one for you. Also produced by J. Robie. If this song reminds you of Planet Rock, remember that Robie co-produced Planet Rock

House Music The first house record committed to vinyl is thought to be On & On by Jesse Saunders & Vince Lawrence in 1983.
