Hi I am a new and not so clued up hobbyist as far as making music with DAWS is concerned just starting out and setting up I have just built my first PC kind of entry-level throw something together for this but am losing the plot as I have a few issues my build is

    Win10 pro
    Ryzen 2700
    B450 Tomahawk
    32g B-die Dark Pro
    RX570 4g
    ADATASX8200 PRO 1TB M.2 2280 SSD
    WD Blue 1tb HDD
    AOC Q3279VWFD8 31.5 QHD
    Presonus USB96 AI
    Kali LP6 (powered)Monitors

Now the problem is with the sound between the audio interface, monitors and system
The monitors are set up as per Kali boundary eq settings
    New XLR-TRS + TRS-TRS cables tested
System, monitors, screen all plugged in via extension lead
I have downloaded Universal control, latest drivers from PreSonus site installed and using from the same USB 2 port on the back of system as there can be issues if not installing and using from same port according to PreSonus
Dials set to playback etc now on usb96 in UC device does not show
    USB port save power disabled
Latest USB drivers installed on the system
Now when I plug a guitar in the front mic on the 96 I get sound? So the monitors or cables are not the issue surely
The sound manager doesn't give me the option of setting the default device because it's not there to set
I tried it one last time last night all cables connected and rebooted the computer for it to load up with a blank screen then I unplugged USB rebooted and the computer worked again its messed up this anyone any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

motherboard? Please install CPU-Z and post a screenshot of the mainboard setting. Also if you have the time do this:
    1. Go to the Desktop.
    2. Press [WinLogoKey] + R to bring up 'Run'.
    3. Type 'msinfo32' without quotes.
    4. Press the [Enter] key.
    5. IMPORTANT: Click File then "Save...", save this file as a .nfo file format and rename the file usb
    6. Upload the file here

First uninstall your Presonus audio interface driver.
Then go to Device Manager/Show Hidden Devices and look in audio first then sound for Presonus devices and uninstall them.

Then install/flash the newest bios: version 7C02v17
And install the newest Chipset: version 19.10.08

Then install the newest driver for Presonus USB96 AI, WITHOUT USB audio interface connected.
Then be sure to connected straight into the motherboard into a USB2 port not a USB3 port in back of the pc case. Do not use USB hub or front USB ports on pc case.
The go into to your DAW and add the Presonus asio driver

If that does not work I have to see the full .nfo file

@barongreenback Before tweaking, and messing with your Operating System you need to make sure that it is not an installation problem. The first thing you need to do is to properly uninstall your Audiobox. In order to do that you need to make sure that you have removed any entries in/from:

    A. The device manager
    B. Application Roaming Data
    C. Prefetch Data

    REMOVING DEVICE MANAGER ENTRIES

    1. Hold the Windows Key and press X.
    2. Press Y to open System.
    3. Select Advanced System Settings.
    5. Click Environment Variables.
    6. Under "User variables for [Your Username]," click "New..."
    For Variable Name, enter: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
    For Variable Value, enter: 1
    7. Close the Environment Variables window by pressing "OK".
    8. Close the System Properties window by pressing "OK".
    9. In the upper-left corner of the System window, press "Device Manager".
    10. Click View, then "Show Hidden Devices".
    11. Check in the following categories and right-click/uninstall anything listed as "AudioBox," "USB Audio Device," or "Unknown Device."

    REMOVING APPLICATION ROAMING DATA

    1. Press the Windows Key, then hold R; enter "%appdata%" (without quotes) into the "open" field, and press the Enter key.
    2. You will be brought to your computer's Roaming folder. You should see a PreSonus folder listed; open it.
    3. Locate the AudioBox and/or AudioBox VSL folder, and delete it.

    REMOVING PREFETCH DATA

    1. Hold the Windows key, then press E.
    2. Open the System Drive (C:\ by default).
    3. Open the Windows folder.
    4. Open the PreFetch folder.
    5. Locate any files with "AudioBox" in the title and delete them. These files would either begin with the word "AudioBox" or "PreSonus", so if the files are set to sort alphabetically, the files in question should only appear in the "A"s and "P"s.

When ready to install make sure your antivirus is not running.

Those are the steps that Presonus will instruct that you perform if you open a support ticket. If nothing works, try what Presonus, myself (under different circumstances), and every article will tell you not to do. Connect your Audiobox to a USB Hub. For years Presonus users have done that to solve the same issue you are having.

I have had nothing but problems with my Audiobox USB 96 interface. It's not nearly as friendly as the earlier model (Audiobox USB). Have tried on multiple machines and finally put the damned thing on the shelf and forgot about it. Before this I would have recommended it. Now.... I have been using a focusrite interface with better results. I would not recommend this interface to anyone!

@Daskeladden @The Pirate Done all that no joy but thanks a lot for the help anyway will give it one last try with a USB hub
@kooper Although it's not good to see other folks with similar issues it is kind of reassuring to know its this useless box and not me that's the problem

Any recommendations for cheap reliable AI just to tick me over for a while?

I have a used Babyface have been able to update the driver but when I try to run the flash firmware nothing happens should I be installing from the cd (new pc doesn't have a cd drive)or is this another dud to add to my collection?

What exactly happens when you install Universal Control v3.0.1.52030? Does it ask you to update firmware and does the interface appear in device manager? And have you tried Asio4all?

    Maybe a issue you have:
then you should see this in device manager:

Before buying a powered USB Hub I would have tried every single USB port on your motherboard even USB3.

Presonus dropped support for my 1818VSL in Windows 10. It still works as an input to DAW but I lost all the on board features like FatChannel. The Universal Control has had issues besides that.

Bro with RME you can download everything you need from their site. Depending on the model the firmware is flashed as long as you are connected online. BTW, which model do you have?

It's a dream to have something you don't have to go through all of this stuff to get it going.

I don't see how the video can help the OP with his current problem. BTW, there is a couple of threads in this forum dedicated to Windows 10 tweaks. https://audiosex.pro/threads/the-windows-10-thread.43034/

Did you try it on another laptop and it worked or did it have the same issue there? If it did not work on any of them maybe laptops don't have the same voltage in the USB ports as desktops usually have. Sounds like a reasonable reason. I read a little bit about it and there is no other way to fix this than a external powered USB hub. You cannot increase the voltage on a USB port without tinkering with the whole electrical system.
Also it was a little bit unclear to me what you mean about grayed out could you post a screenshot of it from Device Manager?
Could also be a faulty Interface it happens from time to time, but the USB voltage issue sounds like a more plausible reason.

@barongreenback Are you connecting the RME by Firewire? Remember that to flash you need the USB connection and driver installed. Check in Control panel>Programs. Send me a screenshot of everything RME related.

Ok so same issues, when tried on the laptop sound from a guitar, plugged into the mic on the front no sound when monitors were plugged on with power saving disabled on USB ports on the laptop

Ater UI is installed with the latest update I open it

Sorry if I was unclear this is what I meant about greyed out Screenshot (15) (3).png
The show devices should allow me to do exactly that but its greyed out even when I sign in to the account its the same

Then onto device manager I go Screenshot (12).png Screenshot (13) (2).png Screenshot (13).png

Surely it has to be the usb this computer is not even two weeks old
