I'm sure you know I really did appreciate and enjoy your humour here.
I wonder how many people will believe me when I say "I would be genuinely enthusiastic if this lecturer could show me all the ways in which me and the baboon are similar." (I'm not joking at all) and it amuses me a lot to think that anyone could be (and many people would be) insulted by those comparisons. I did once have the intense pleasure of shaking hands with an Orangutan; I won't forget the mutual eye contact - riveting.

Oh, easily. It wasn't even me that brought it in! Well, not really. :D

Until recently I found it impossible to believe in freewill (I saw a conscious mind as something like a user-interface in which freewill was essentially an illusion). It used to quite disturb me sometimes and one day, tired of feeling uncomfortable about it, I thought to myself, "Am I going to carry on worrying about this? I can choose not to.........." And suddenly the spell was broken - I chose not to worry about it anymore, proving to myself freewill. Works for me. :D

Apes, not monkeys, as I am sure you know. ;) Apes and monkeys share common ancestor.

Thanks for the info on the lecturer, he's an interesting and engaging dude. I find him really funny.

Richard Dawkins' 'The Ancestors Tale' follows that thread all the way & really is a very good read indeed - even the somewhat abridged audiobook is well worth checking out should you get the chance.

Of course I do, but to me my choice of monkeys is more poetic, rhythmically supporting and flows off the tongue and out of the mouth without effort and lyrically supportive of the vision that I would hope to conjure in the reader.

 

I like it, but I think it obliges you to now write the whole song "monkeys with pants"; not sure what genre; lots of possibilities.
