    hello again.
just a question about what u guys think about the future of daws, even specifically for each one (FL, reaper, etc) and other plugins...which functions would u like to see, and what is actually realistically possible for these tools to happen?
just wondering what u folks think would be sooner or later

More plugin companies will adopt the subscription/cloud business model, and the smaller companies will have to follow suit.
Consider how cheap Waves plugs are now, compared to back in the day. It's all changing.
    If it works for Netflix...

I'm worried about Reaper v6 because they're gonna implement video editing and I kind of expect this to either clutter everything up or introduce a lot of subtle or not so subtle bugs that'll be hard to track. Overall, a waste of time and development energy that could be well spent elsewhere, and I have no idea why they are doing it. If Reaper would just introduce a couple of beginner friendlier tools and ship with a bunch of usable instruments, that could bring it to a whole new level IMHO.

Reaper already has plenty of tutorials for the beginners on their site and anyone can download freeware synth or sampler plugins.

Slate has the right idea with the option to rent or purchase. Otherwise assuming everyone has an eternal internet access seems like a quick way to lose revenue.

Regarding LAN/online I think DAWs will integrate better with remote DAWs for better collaboration, a great one would allow for integration with non native outside DAWs so that collaborators can all use the program they prefer wile sending audio files instantly, assuming plugin formats compatible

Video editing per se, or just support import of video for scoring to? As per Logic, Ableton, etc.
If it's the former, then I can see that being a clusterfuck, yeah!

Well yeah; Slate was exactly what I was thinking of when I wrote that. There has to be both options, I agree. And if not, you're right; marketing suicide!

Apologies if my comments don't directly fit the question.

I'm still in the following mindset...
    - I do want future goodies.
    - I do appreciate that I've already got far more than I really need to make music.
    - I absolutely hate the idea of being online for making music and I can't see any way that I'm ever likely to change my mind about that.
    - If future music production stuff all goes online, I'll just ignore it and won't care.

So, how is my imagination failing me? Is there ANY future musical tool or toy that is 'online only' that will change my mind. What might it be?
I'm not including anything that's about musical education, that's great online, but 'actual music production' is something that I just don't want to be online for.

Re. the Slate Everything Bundle: Does one actually have to be online when using the plugins??
I thought one just rented them, and could then work offline?

I for one definitely won't follow a path that means I have to be online to work. Ridiculous.

Smartphone support only, 'cause no one is able to use keys and mouse anymore, brain-to-MIDI-interface and of course the long-awaited shit-in-gold-out plugin for all the ... [IMG] :winker:

About the online thing, the only part that could be interesting to develop, is the international collaboration DAW.
    That's a really promising thing.

About video editing in Reaper, I agree that this is not what I expect from this DAW. We already have video import and it's easy to score a movie with reaper. It would be better to implement other functions.

About the online subscription system, it's not an option for me. I would be looking to any other solution before getting into this, I see it as a trap.

I'd like to see more rent-to-own. Sylenth do this and I'm not sure why others don't.

There is one that only works "online." It even forced me to purchase a Mac. https://audionamix.com/technology/adx-trax-pro/

Both interesting. and together they make me realise that I'll need to distinguish between...
'stuff that must be online only' and I'll just need to decide whether I want to use it or not,
and 'stuff that just happens to be online only at the moment', and I'll just hope that someone has an offline version in the pipeline.

Interesting to note that there's no shortage of people here sticking two fingers up to 'being forced to be online'. I wonder if that widespread sentiment is enough to slow the trend to online only models (if only in the music production world). At the very least I'd hope it provides an incentive for companies to recognise the opportunity of satisfying customers that want to be offline. My crystal ball ain't that good though.

@Ad Heesive Almost every company that offers the "online" option also offers the standard way. The "online" is simply that: an option designed to save the user a lot of money. It is not intended to eliminate the other. With Audioanmix, the "online" is not an option. It is a requirement. You must be online in order to use it. So if you want to use it, you are forced to not only be online but to purchase a mac if you don't own one. Audioanmix, of course, is in an enviable position. Its program is the best. No other program comes even close to what TRAX Pro and TRAX Pro SP can do.

Future is full mobile integration and closed ecosystems. Some companies are already moving to this direction: look at Korg Gadget for example. That's the future right there.

Now people will say this is a bad direction.

But then again, if I were to design a DAW from the ground up, that's exactly what I would do. Fuck the VST and MIDI standards. What I would want are plugins that are natively fully integrated to the DAW. And our hardware. You wanna develop for our platform? Then you custom write it to fit our standards and we will sell it in our centralized marketplace.
