Where you guide the viewer's eye for the grey mechanical elements compared to the red circumferential is a bit odd as they are in different perspectives or plains of focus and do not line up. What was your reason behind that choice?

Hmm, yes I see what you mean. The idea for the mechanical elements was to create a sense of infinite space while having an object of focus at the core.

I think the odd guide comes from the way the depth of field for the camera acted on the grey pipes on the left. Maybe the first blurred mechanical element is causing the main awkwardness. Not sure if I added that one there later or it was already there. I wonder if the guide would be better without it or if it would make the space too empty...

But yeah, it does have an awkward guide, I had noticed this too from the left side I feel like those grey pipes were drawing a bit too much attention to themselves.

Now that I look back I feel like I should have spaced them out much, much wider, been a bit more brave with the spacing. Then the red pipes would have had better focus I think...

I find I'm still getting used to controlling my elements & settings within a 3d space so I guess in time I'll get better at handling them.

But thanks for that feedback, good thing to think about...

Conjured up something quick while trying to understand blenders particle system better, feel like I've got the hang of it:

    icospheres-FINAL.jpg

I'm so annoyed though because I should have used the particle system to iterate those mechanical elements in my previous design so I can get that more random, infinite feel I wanted. For some reason my dumb brain forgot to use the particle system and I ended up doing it manually while getting a much shittier result. It was frustrating to place it around and it took some time as well. All the more a lesson for me to work smarter not harder. Oh well, you live and learn just gotta move onto the next piece and do better...

Anyway, this is much simpler but better executed. I controlled the depth of field more properly in this one, which lead to a much better focus on the main subject.

My next pieces will hopefully be more confident...stay tuned...

God, another one that has taken much longer than it should have. Spent a whole day of my currently jobless ass trying to get this right... I'm going to bed...

Decided to do some branding type thing today. That basically means I shove a big logo at the centre of the artwork as a tactic to cover up the primitive concept. Lol...

    displaced-planes-FINAL.jpg

This was fun to do even though they look far from real snowy mountains. It was fun messing around with displacement mapping :D

Liking the Icospheres graphic, nice dimensional effect.

This looks perfect for the cover of my new boyband album cover. Well, so far its just uncle Bill and I so its kind of a manband but we're going to take over. Also let me know if you want to join my manband.

It doesn't need to look exactly like snowy mountains in the distance as long as the shadows are true to the source of the light.

This is a print from one of my favourite artists, Wolf Kahn. None of the objects in this piece are rendered true. Your genre is not Realism, you have the leeway to create your own worlds and the objects that inhabit them.

yeah totally true. I guess it's because most 3d artists these days care alot about photorealism so it's made me self conscious about that. I like that Wolf Kahn painting gnna check out more of his stuff. I like that stylized texture and colour really adds to the feeling and expressiveness of the piece.

Speaking of creating my own worlds here is a bit of a wacky one I was working on today:

Wow, I'm actually really proud of this render. Came out really nice for me and like this dark style that was inspired by some EP art I had seen a while back.

    halls-of-dimensions-cellular-confluence-FINAL.jpg

Hehe, for once I am happy. Controlled the elements much better this time and added some proper subtle offsets. Maybe a bit too red and should have added some blue on the spikey parts to utilize a more red/blue complementary colour scheme, but black also works just as well...

    Onto the next one... :D

    Very nice!
But you should optimize the images for the web. They are taking forever to load, and I have 100/100mbit/s connection. It feels like I'm back with a 56kB/s phone modem.
There also seems to be some weird raster in the images.

wow they are? I hadn’t noticed thanks for letting me know cuz it was fine on my end. And the images are max 2-3 mb so i didn’t think it would be a problem. I’ll make a specific web optimized version for AS.

That weird raster is actually intentional it’s an inteference overlay effect that I placed during post processing.

Oh, maybe it's just on my end then. Haha. Sorry about that.

I also had a hunch (30% chance) that the raster was intentional.
I will slowly back off now and do whatever I was doing.

The final addition to the 'Halls of Dimensions' series:

    halls-of-dimensions-the-final-planets-FINAL.jpg

Had a lot of fun while coming up with ideas for these pieces as an interesting way to learn and develop my 3d skills. Learnt and developed alot. Really happy and satisfied overall.

Time to move onto a new series of ideas. Stay tuned...

Couldn't post anything yesterday due to it being a holiday where I live, had guests over etc. Sad I couldn't though was trying to post at least 1 piece a day. Oh well...

Here is my next piece from my new 'Urban' series I am starting. This one was inspired by a realtime demo made a long time ago called 'Diego on e' by a demogroup called Holon, hence the name of the piece being Diego:
