Smells like burning printed circuit boards. Get's 'em every time.

 

For some reason I've never been able to figure out why mine smells (and tastes) of real skanky old dog breath, people tell me its 'cause I talk crap but I just don't buy that......but its so strong it does smell as though its right under me nose.

i personally get annoyed when studios smell weird/funky/or like dirty carpet. im lucky to have wood floor. leather studio chair / which i clean every so often with leather conditioner . so i guess the smell i like is clean leather .

 

interesting question to say the least
as someone pointed out a studio shouldn't smell strong especially if others come in it might not be to everyone's taste. but if you ask me i would go for something mild like jasmin or anything similar imo no that i use any in my studio, but who i'm i kidding i don't have a studio, i have a pc a keyboard a pair of speakers and a sound card in a corner of my living room LOL

 

I'd go for something strong like a psychopathic fugue, near my condensers. ;-)

I'm still intrigued to get some plants for recording studio room, to liven up place a bit

Don't think along the lines of masking nasty smells with perfumed odours. Think along the lines of air extractors and air-conditioning (and heating of course). In cold countries dirt and therefore smells get trapped in carpets and curtains. I hope there are some good ideas here.

The smell of fresh data. Studio One 4.5.1 and frankincense resin. Estrella Galicia's hoppy notes and love the smell of new gear, too.

 

I like the smell of tubes cooking the air coming off amps and audio gear, there's nothing like it.

Any kind of incense or ganja/cigarette will fuck up your mic capsules, knobs and faders and will leave a sticky residue on all the surfaces as most studios don't have cross ventilation and everything settles down on your stuff.

This is true, but it never stopped anybody from the beginning of recording til the now of recording.
oh yeah, and beer in the mixing desk adds something special too... crackles and/or silence and sometimes shocks and the remains of smoking gear.
