Alternatively, if you are recording and would like to return to the point your cursor is you can do this:
    1. Go to the Top Menu in Studio One (in upper left corner)
    2. Find Transport .
    3. Scroll down to Options .
    4. Over to the right arrow symbol, check Return to Start on Stop.

With this option checked, if you have not set your cursor anywhere else, when you press the Space bar it returns to Start.

    I feel ya:
Those type of basic / core functions in a DAW could sometimes be incredibly hard to find ...

I sometimes wonder if DAW programmers are coming from Mars, deciding to implement functions in a DAW at very illogical places in the DAW.

    well...
i should have been a little more specific. what i am ( was) looking for was the ability to toggle play/stop and then have the cursor ( playhead) return to zero.
the way it is at the moment i have to press 2 or 3 shortcuts to do it when i just want it as a preference when dealing with tweaking parts of the timeline. i have switched off 'locate cursor in empty space but i still can't get it to work the way i want it. it seems like a nothing but it affects my workfow, i.e. it can cause 'computer rage' or at lease lots of 'Tutt-ing' : )

thinking about it now, i want to be able to highlight or click in the timeline independently of the 'Play Cursor'..?
i've spen to long at this computer today

As long as your cursor was at ZERO(Start) and you did not use it, when you press the Space bar it will return to Zero. But this is the same on every DAW I have tested.

If they were from Mars they would be much smarter than the current DAW programmers.

The problem here is that the OP wants to return to "Start" ( what he calls zero) by just pressing on key one time? Fact is that once you have used your cursor, then you have to press the "0" twice in order to go back to Start. Neither can it be done with Faderport. But I think it is like that with every DAW.

The easiest way to jump to any specific position, especially after having the cursor moved, is to set a locator or a marker to that position. This way you can stop, scroll or jump around widley and get back to that position with one single key (or a combination).

I guess it amounts nothing, i can learn the necessary shortcuts.. sometimes when i am working i sort of get tunnel vision and resort to habits which are pretty much hard-wired for me, especially hitting the space bar to stop and return to zero in one key press...
    maybe in version 5...

    Just a Brainfart:

Why don't you assign the "§" key to the command "Return to Zero" ?
That key is easier to reach than spacebar, you could let a left finger of your left hand rest on that "§" key.

    ->
'In the Studio One/Options/General/Keyboard Shortcuts (Mac OS X: Preferences/General/Keyboard Shortcuts) menu, you can see a heading called Keyboard Mapping Scheme. Here, you can select from keyboard maps for several DAWs; select a map, and Studio One recognizes and applies common key commands from that DAW. You can then customize the key commands to fit your workflow.

The key commands used for each DAW can be viewed in the Key Command menu...'

This thread reminds me Niels Bohr's physics exam. (which is not true but still a good story)
TLDR; there are too many ways to lead us what we need.
