Sorry for the trollish post but it's true. This is from Admiral Bumblebees DAW comparison blog.
It seems a lot of DAWs have issues with basic automation creating nasty interpolation noise and timing issues.

Studio One is worst of the lot but most of them have issues; Logic, Cubase, Mixbus, Reason, Waveform

Pro Tools is almost perfect in all the tests, so is Reaper and Digital Performer

I feel that this is a big issue, I want to trust my DAW with basic stuff like automation. I mean if they can't even do volume automation right then how can I trust that software with my mixes and recording? I think it's pretty fucked up.

Yes, I also always have the feeling "Man those super well made sounds on the radio and so on...they just can not have automation. There just has to be something not so correct". Maybe they just do not use automation. That must be it. Every well made song must have no automation. :hahaha:

    I just love those threads.

To me its more of an issue of you expecting the program to do something, and it doesnt do it. From a programmatical perspective its insane that so many fail on something like this, even on the DAW that i use. I wouldnt be so bothered if it was something edge case but its not uncommon to perform 100-0-100 types of automations on certain elements within a track, and to see these fading issues not corresponding to your automations is quite concerning! Even if it isnt damaging to your musical output its good to know should you ever switch DAW's etc...

oh men, wow. He say "All DAW sound the same?" but don't show the audible "sound" differences, he show the "mechanical process" applied to audio. Very different things...

Ive just found for example for the Fruityloops tests that using fruity balance under the same conditions creates a much better response, still not perfect but way better then automating FL's own faders...

There are dry/wet knob vst's which might help automate. In Ableton I've got one routed to macros which automate Acustica stuff pretty well

Sorry not sorry, but 320ms fade(!) (instead of cut 0 to -inf, you've drawn), sounds just like it looks.. very very bad if you DIDN'T want it there (non need for any audio demo, though I tested it..) At least it's so bad that it will be probably treated as a (huge) bug.. it's already all over Presonus forums
    https://forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?f=151&t=35090
I really like S1 look and feel.. but slowly getting fed up with all this hiccups :/

Ableton is IMO (at least musically) OK. Not a snap.. a little soft (~3ms) fade (with "create fades.." off)

    Studio One then Ableton Live

I'm happy in my blissful ignorance. Reading all of that does not help me one iota in finding inspiration to create melodies or compose lyrics. Music is not data. It is not just information. It is feeling. I feel a sort of sadness for the Admiral Bumblebees of the world.

One positive thing about Presonus is that they at least tried to fix their automation after Admiral Bumblebees second article was published (even though they introduced a new automation problem with the fix in 4.5). So they listen to critique, thats what grown ups do.

Steinberg on the other hand have known about the "automation moves with buffer size"- problem for many years without fixing it.

Studio One 4.5.1.52729 just been released.

    ● Plug-in Scan freezes when Windows is offline
    ● Volume automation is laggy!!! (Solved????)
    ● Crash on undoing instantiation of instruments
    ● Audio events disappear on bounce when writing tempo information option is disabled
    ● Crash on hitting Alt+Arrow up/down in empty song
    ● Limiter metering mode switch is broken
    ● Pop-up menu for "Add Insert" command has wrong properties

Whoa that was quick! So cool to get a patch so soon. Did it solve that issue? "laggy" volume automation doesn't sound like the problem described by the Admiral. But it's great to have a fix for the offline plugin scanning issue.
