    I need a new machine

my old one , is old and struggling with anything including games and sometimes with flstudio12.
I'm trying to future proof so that I don't need to buy again for quite a few years( and yes i want to play games as I want the pc to do everything).

I can't get windows 7 ( the company won't do it anymore) so I have to go for windows 10.

I have read somewhere here that someone said get windows 10 pro( is this truly the case ?).

I've delayed for a few years going up to windows10, but now I have no choice.

can anyone tell me how they find using flstudio on windows 10 , and any issues with any of their vsts( kontakt etc)

I know you probably have seen plenty of these requests and are probably sick of them, so I do appreciate your constructive criticisms on this.

    thank you

Would you consider building your own pc? That would be the main question to start with imo.

As for you link, specs are not bad but 16gb ram is not future proof. Also for this price, just 512gb ssd and 2tb hdd doenst sound good at all. And the mainboard will be some random stuff.

If you are going to invest 2k, I would really recommend you building your own by chosing proper, selected hardware. You would either end up paying less or getting better specs for the same price.
I am sure the forum would guide you properly on your way!

i dont have time to build my own pc ( too much work on)
the ram can be increased later
the disk storage is fine as I offload majority of library and stuff onto external drives.

The ASUS ROG STRIX B360-H GAMING motherboard has no thunderbolt possibilities (and bad VRM ?). The Intel 9900K gets very hot and deserves a good motherboard.
I recommend either Asus PRIME Z390-A, Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE or Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI as motherboard. Try to find a pre-built pc with thunderbolt support and M2 NVM 1gb SSD (Samsung 970 EVO Plus). Also I prefer Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler instead of water cooling

@Daskeladden What's your thoughts on the NH-D15's size? I heard it can be too big for a case, or too close to the graphics card, or block RAM sticks, etc

    Something to ponder:
Why you shouldn't water cool your PC

On a middle size case like Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C you should be fine. Never heard anything else.

i am running an i9 9900k on an Asus Rog Maximus XI Hero,AMD Vega 64 grafix (i would prefer a GTX 1080 or 2080 but there are no drivers for MacOS Mojave and i run Win 10 and MacOS) plus the Noctua NH-D15s. There are no problems in terms of size or temperature, though beeing overclocked. But my board has no thunderbolt support. As mentioned for thunderbolt, the Z390 A Prime or the expensive Rog Maximus XI Extreme will work.

It can seriously be done in like 90 minutes + however long it takes to watch a couple youtube tuts

When i was in the market for a new pc i made a thread just like this one. Everyone and their little cousin told me to build one. I balked and made excuses. I have work to do. I have to spend my time learning and making music. I dont know much about computers, let alone computer hardware. I dont trust myself to assemble it. Blah blah blah

In the end i built a much nicer computer than i could have otherwise afforded and it was fun, easy, and rewarding.

Pcpartpicker.com will do most of the work for you, if you change your mind

    RTX2080 is way over kill.

I would trade it for a GTX1060, 32GB RAM, and another SSD.

i'd wait a week or two, details about the new amd ryzens are being released now at computex.

Release date for the cpu's are supposed to be in about 6 weeks, could be well worth waiting to see what happens with them.

All is OK on Win 10 & even better than Win 7 (FL, Kontakt, VST, x86 & x64, gaming, speed, stability...)

It's a bit more expensive than you could build it yourself, but that's what you're paying them for, right?

3 year warranty. It seems a reasonable deal on a pretty hot-ass PC imo. Perhaps in 3-5 years you might get a significant further bump from a new (£500-800?) future gfx card. It should easy be good for 5 years+ I'd say.

Motherboard is end of line? Meh - without looking into it too much, I'd say it was a decent deal. Certainly nothing stands out as particularly problematic SFAIK. Nice PC! :D

thank you for a grounded point of view
I didn't want this thread to turn into some sort of a shooting match over which is the best method or how you should be building/buying your pc.

I really DON'T APPRECIATE people( not you of course) calling my work commitments an excuse, especially when it involves taking care of several vulnerable adults who require 24 hour care....

very good point, i did not know of these supposed releases, so i can wait a few weeks. At the worse the price may drop for my proposed purchase..
