I recently had this issue that plugins in my daw sent me notifications for available updates, which prooved me that they access the internet.

how can i disable that completely? i have a nice system right now and dont want to update anything and keep it at this state.

firewall doesnt seem to do the job, as i have blocked logic from accessing the internet already

you can restrict computer from internet completely, while retaining LAN access by typing wrong gateway IP address in network settings - very simple and not making problem when you have dual-boot system on one same hardware

Ive been online with hundreds of plugins for 10+years, no reason to block anything. noone cares about you, your plugins or your music.

  8. That's right, except for a very small number of plugs that like to phone home. The way to deal with that is don't use plugs that phone home.

Or.... you can restrict the internet of your PC with your router, my daw PC is in my network and has access to my MAC but not the internet, saves all kinds of headaches

    i your on a MAC

    LittleSnitch
    Radio Silence
    or Handsoff

all work great although LittleSnitch are bastards because if you buy a license it will only work for the current OS if the OS upgrades you have to buy a completely new license and your older version is rendered useless if it ain't compatible with the new OS.

I do it quite the same way... Almost as secure as pulling the LAN cable...

But that's not working if you must rely on a network connection because you need e.g. libs on NW shares (e.g. NAS).

So, I use two NICs. One called EXTERNAL with automatical settings obtained form router/DNS. The other one is INTERNAL for wich I define a static internal IP v4 address, disable IP v6 and leave standard Gateway blank.

I leave EXTERNAL disabled most of the time and just activate it if I need to use online resources.

Windows just use the host file:
    c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

    Example:

There is also Lulu which is like Little Snitch but only watches for outgoing requests.
LS is probably better but this is free so you can give it a try with no worries about paying first.
