The dongle is simply to 'protect' Cubase, it has no effect on vst's cracked or not cracked so the answer is yes, you can use them.

BTW, Steinberg are celebrating 30 years so all versions of Cubase are currently 50% off.

Buy it. It it an excellent investment. I've been using Cubase for more then 15 years. I still collaborate with people using several other DAW's at my studio. But I still have not found any other DAW that has the Audio and Midi functionally of Cubase. You will not be disappointed.

Ive been using and upgrading to the latest legit Cubase Pro and Wavelab Pro for about 10 years now and all the cracked plugins from the sister site always work in both (and I test most of them from all the different companies) :)
So buy away, it wont be a problem :)

Cubase is more geared towards music production as for Nuendo is geared more towards Post and video game audio production.

Thank you for asking this very question. This has been one thing holding me back from making the jump.

At less than 300 bucks it's very tempting, this is the kind of sale that will reoccur in 30 years... maybe.

Oh and one thing I forgot to mention, the price tag for Cubase is "aaaaa lot" cheaper as well. Even with the discount that is going on, Nuendo is $980.00 (usually $1400) So aside from one being more geared towards music production and such, I think Cubase is a good buy especially now.

Do you guys block Cubase from using the internet then if you're running dubious VSTs with it? Don't the plugins call home?

Well, if you're using legit software and it has full access to your internet connection, then all the plugins with that host also has access. Particularly those that have online components. I was wondering how you allow a legit DAW access so it can authorise/download content/give you updates while blocking dubious VSTs.

I appreciate that people may not be having problems, but you'd think that data is being collected somewhere.

^ So the answer for me has been to use Little Snitch, a network monitor, that gives you the option to allow or disallow certain connections if you happen to be online at the same time as using your DAW.
    I highly recommend it.

For instance it will say "Logic Pro X wants to connect to SoftubeDOTcom", when I've just installed Softube stuff...I hit disallow/no/whatever it is.
Or "Logic Pro X wants to connect to AppleDOTcom (usually for library updates)...and I can allow that.
You'll also get to see how much your computer is connecting to external places. So it's also saved me in 'drive-by malware' situations when coming to a dodgy webpage. You'll see the depth of the telemetry that goes on too...
    So, it's great!

Yeah i hear that's very good, this is for Windows though which doesn't have little snitchy friend. :)

Not a big deal as i only have a few left to go legit on. One is superior drummer, i'm finding it hard to justify paying for that as it's just so expensive but jumped on the Pro deal so maybe Groove Agent may have me covered, i doubt it however, as it's acoustic/rock style drums that i need.

That had not been stated so far in this thread.
Well, just don't be online when using Cubase. From my experience with Little Snitch, no DAW or plugin phones home when you aren't using it.

lol, sorry didn't mean to, but it's maybe an important consideration for users without little snitch, or using windows. It came to mind as i read people supporting the view that all is ok without mentioning blocking Cubase from internet may still be advisable.

Huh? What's an important consideration exactly? I do not understand you.
Well, no. Because when you open a plugin, Cubase can be asked by the plugin to call home...

So you must edit your .hosts file if you haven't got a network monitor on pc.
    You're welcome!
