Although I find his compositions fantastic and a joy to listen to, if considering the chords without the melody, I have to agree somewhat, simply because melodies are easier to remember than the chords built upon them. Like chords being the the barbecue sauce with your spare ribs. Or the color in pictures. Or the boring story told and decorated in an exciting way by a great storyteller.
Given however that he has probably "re-harmonised" more original melodies than he has done his own compositions, I wonder how an original melody with honesty and soul would suffer from adding chords?
