Lol, I use even less. I pretty much only use iZotope Neutron 2 and Native Instruments Premium Tube Series. And maybe U-he Presswerk from time to time, but that's pretty much it.

In my opinion the Fabfilter multiband is essential.

I could use only 1 EQ: FabFilter Pro-Q3
    and 1 compressor: Glue Compressor
(and i actually do most of the time)

    Why does genre/DAW matter?
I mainly use Ableton stock as well, I'm also a BIG fan of freebies from Tokyo Dawn, Audio Damage Rough Rider, and Variety of Sound, but I really don't use them much anymore, I'm too lazy.

    Izotope Neutron 2 is great.
More special tools - ProAudioDSP DSM V2, MSpectralDynamics.
I also like Tokyo Dawn's stuff, IL Maximus (maybe there is more advanced version of this type of multiband compressor/waveshaper somewhere out there). Also, stock's daws effects to save CPU for simple tasks (Reaper's effects are very CPU friendly and freeware, so I use them occasionally in FL and Live).
I'm not a fan of vintage emulations - it's just easier and more controlled to add saturation/distortion/harmonics according to your taste using specialised plugin like SDRR or whatever EQ+waveshaper combo you have.

Only 5 or 6 software comps? Voxengo Polysquasher, Marquis, Crunchessor, PSP FETpressor, The Glue, and DMG TrackComp are my choice.

Only 5 EQs? Voxengo CurveEQ, MarvelEQ, HarmoniEQ, DMG EQuality, and Fabfilter Pro-Q 2.

And as I mentioned earlier in some thread, my taste changed after introducing hardware into the "EQuation". :) I use Drawmer compressor and gate a lot, and mixer EQ, Yamaha and TC FX. It feels refreshing not having to stare at the screen and doing everything with the mouse for hours, :winker:

    Cheers! :headbang:

I like IK Black1176 (1176 or Fet compressors are usefull and irreplaceable for what they are good for),Waves CLA2A,Empirical Labs Arousor and PA SPL Iron and BX Townhouse as compressors.

    EQ Fabfliter ProQ,BX SSL4000E,Waves Puigtec,PA DangerousBaxEQ,Waves API550.

Edit: And also BX ConsoleN too.Sorry it's a total of 6 EQs.Because each of them is good at something IMO.Like each of my compressors.

6 EQs: Redline EQ, SPL PassEQ, TDR VOS SlickEQ GE (It goes up to 40kHz. I use Luftikus too though.), Waves H-EQ, DDMF DirectionalEQ, ProQ3 but since everybody and their grandma uses that, I'll add any 1073 emulation. I like the Andrew Scheps version even though it's super ordinary.
6 Comps: VCL-4 (My new LA-2A and LA-3A emulation replacement. It's based on the LA-4 which gets no love.), Waves SSL Comp, MJUC (Great on vocals), Waves API 2500, McDSP SPC2000 404 (this thing does some serious magic ._. It could be my only comp), TubeTech CL-1B (doesn't work on everything but when it does, it's creamy goodness. Surprisingly good on busy mix buses too.)

My cheats would be: URS Strip Pro and McDSP 6050 Ultimate CS. Both channel strips with EQ and comp emulations.

Ableton stock EQ is okay but yesterday I used it on a vocal and it didn't do what I wanted which is the only reason the Waves H-EQ is on my list because it just worked. And yes the oversampling was on. The comp however is great! Works on anything you throw at it. So is the glue comp though I don't use it anymore.

Ableton stock EQ and comp are always my 1st go to. The comp is great for some quick and easy compression, sidechain a necessity, use for everything. If i want more aggressive or coloured I almost always use u-he presswerk, has loads of options but easy to use and i really like it's character. The ableton eq seems very gentle to me so I stack them throughout my [usually huge] FX chain per channel. If I want a "proper" one its always fabfilter. Having spectrum analysis built into an EQ is so much better...I can usually get all the results I require from any combination of these and would rather waste my time installing more interesting stuff- synths and weird fx even if I only use them in one track. Bitwig's stock stuff is pretty good too, worth a try.Vst folders fill up way too quickly. I'm trying to keep my current install from getting as bloated as the last one.... genres- glitch, psy,d+b,dubstep

... has the biggest latency I ever saw for an algo eq.

I once tried it. Couldn't hear a big difference between the two VCAs, measured the opto and found none of the characteristics of an LA2A and could pretty quickly reproduce its 1176 sound with the Reaper stock compressor (the simple one) with more transparent and upfront sound. SInce then I didn't use it any more.

Yh and it doesn't play nice with older hardware either but I can keep my lows digital and highs analogue and vice versa so I don't mind. It really needs an update though for reals.
