There is something that bothers me even more than going off topic (I guess I'm going off topic by mentioning this LOL) . . .
When someone posts condescending remarks about whatever the post/request is about. For example, if I ask for help in editing MIDI and someone posts, "Read the manual," or "Do an internet search," or "If you don't no anything about MIDI, you should play a ukulele."

This is related to the topic above as well as my comment . . . Why do members who have no interest in the headline topic read and post . . . other than being mean spirited?

I know you did not. That idea never crossed my mind. After a couple of months here you get to know your "neighbors" pretty darn well. In fact, none of the individual responses has come as a surprise. Exactly as I expected it would be.

I'd argue that we should always stay off-topic when participating in every thread. Otherwise we'd only ever hear about how to fix Omnisphere installs, compare 2 identical compressors and decide whether plugin x, y or z gives the best analog warmth; because it was used in soviet subs in the 1950s and nuclear radiation gives the noisiest (best) tone or w/e.

An OP is a person who initiates a thread/topic. [Insert preferred pronoun] is the original poster.

I think you are spot on, that’s exactly what it is about, the intent is mean spirited.

one can or should (specially mods) easily see the difference between simple discussions, misunderstandings and exactly as you say "mean spirited" comments

its crucial to see that difference because most pricks\trolls work hard on balancing on that fine line and way to often manage to pass under the radar, they shouldn’t.

insults on the other hand can sometimes be the result of justified frustration, wrong technically but still justified because of circumstances

    what are you baffling about?

you must be talking about your own ability to make useless comments. 3 posts and you have already achieved that level of content, it looks promising indeed..

and even if it were like you say, then why the heck did you register here then?

To let you know not to open or participate in all of those useless threads. When you don't do that, as a consequence you don't need to get so worked up over staying on-topic or deviating from the OP's expected paths.

I strongly believe we should stay on topic in any particular thread. Most of the time there is an incredible wealth of information surrounding the topic or context, almost to the point where anyone
First reading who got the intial impression that they know everything about that topic already , probably will find out some more information interesting and relavant.
But because a lot of people don't stay on topic it gets cluttered up with nonsense in the place where all of them unique viewpoints by different people each covering an aspect of the topic would be.
Maybe we can reorientation ourselves such that we can bring our own unique input in the gap we are seeing where an aspect of the topic has not covered.
In this way we can bring value and perspective .
While at the same time feeling a deep appreciation for the participation from so many unique perspectives of the subsets of the topic.
The main difference I think anyway
Is cluttered mess with some overall value,
Compared to immense value through the fusion of individuality and community coming together in that one topic.
Long lasting information and value into the future.

You're totally right. Unfortunately, this a much harder problem to solve, and it's even worse in others music (or pretty much anything) related forums.

When he posts some nonsense about jazz we'll have the 100% confirmation.
Virtual? That's for losers. I want a XXL-BobbyM sized authentic one and some weight just in case I begin to float.

instead of gaining a well deserved warning
why don’t you instead explain what exactly is that you cannot agree with the OPs premise?

or was your only useless goal to just insult him?

You among others are giving the OP more reason with every post out of hate and envy you write. Only for seeing you portraying clearly yourselves this thread is worth it.

Just like I said before they don't care about reason, only about trying to insult the pirate the most without getting banned.
Though it would be nice to take profit of this thread to clean the backyard.

Staying on-topic is an absolute necessity. It's the primary purpose of entering threads. The problem is with the topics of threads. Topics mentioned earlier in my previous post fritter away the time and fortunes without allowing people to concentrate on the essential and underlying logics and problems of actual songwriting process.
