Great composition, the mix could be better (more upfront) and the instruments' balance too (percs a bit too low, brass a bit too loud), imho.

    Hello @Olivier_St :)

Beautiful composition, theme & orchestration  & thanks for sharing
I agree with what @No Avenger already said :)
If you ever redo the mix bring more upfront the percussion, that way you will give more energy & the brass/strings/choir a bit down in the mix .

Spyfxmk2, I am impressed by the sound quality of your work.

No Avenger and Spyfxmk2, thank you for your feedback and directions. So I made a new mix that I suggest you listen to. Is it closer to what you imagined?

webhead, it sounds like you were inspired by traditional music from Central Europe. The musical style fits very well with the images.

rudolph, I really like the atmosphere of the first track with guitar. I am less sensitive to the following both in terms of sound and composition. I have the impression of a succession of themes without any real link between them.

Yes i feel this sounds better  ,also you could play more with volume automations & velocities/expressions midi settings ,
In general (not talking about your composition) i find that in orchestral projects we should preserve/maintain always the "dynamics" of the sounds (many times people send me their film scores & cinematic trailers over compressed & over limited :winker: ).

Thank You once again for sharing & best wishes ! :)

Olivier_St. Thanks for your time. All the tracks in my page are made for short movies, different moods of course, even within one single short. maybe that´s the reason why you hear them so fragmented. Regrettably I haven´t heard your music as yet, my connection is awful these days. I live in Venezuela, if that means something to you. Thanks for your feedback.

    Spyfxmk2,
Yes, I believe that the apparent ease given by compressors and limiters does not sometimes lead us to seek to obtain the width and consistency of sound through less "violent" processes.
Optimizing the dynamics "at the base" during midi writing is indeed an interesting approach... but you need to have sound modules well enough built to allow it. This is not the case for all of them.
Thank you again for your listening and feedback.

    rudolph,
I thought the second track was one and the same composition. Isn't that the case?
Yes, I know the situation in Venezuela. What a sadness to see what I considered, seen from France, to be an interesting experience falling into a kind of chaos.
I hope that your country will emerge well and without too much damage from this ordeal.

    Yep, closer. Much clearer.
Now you need to get back some low end for balance and impact and as Spyfxmk2 correctly said, some dynamics. For instance from 0:43 - 0:44 there should be an increase of round about 6dB just from the higer dynamics (velocity) and additional instruments.
For the single channels/instruments use compression only a bit (max 3dB) for sound. In subgruops you can compress more for additional level, but this kind of music needs more dynamics than it has atm.

Thank you for detailing your impressions. For my part, I find that your remarks and advice lead to a positive result.
This encourages me to continue working on the mixing and opens up new perspectives.
If you have some time, here is a version that seems to me to go in the direction you suggest.

If other people wish to intervene... You are welcome to join us.

I think you need to work some more on reverb/EQ, positioning and levels, but I like the feel. It has that folkish/dreamy vibe.

You should try to enhance the emotion and feel of the track, not just "mix" it or make it loud just because you have to. I need to also remind myself of that. I tend to do it, just because it's a comfy routine, but it doesn't always work. (You've improved it though)

A track i did when i started out.Not mixed properly.I lost the project files too.

If i remember correctly all instruments are from spitfire audio labs.

after 1:42 needs to be improved (talking about the mix only here)

I suggest you open a new project & try to recreate it again or enhance it   (you could also make a "hybrid" track combing it with some good "electronica" )

Have a great day !

Gramofon, thank you for your feedback.
I don't think that the work guided by Spyfxmk2 and No Avenger was aimed at making the mix louder. That's not the way I understood their interventions and that's not the way I reworked the mix.
Besides, it is probably possible to refine the composition but I feel like I have arrived where I wanted to go. So my idea is to get the most out of the composition as it is rather than changing it. So I rather intervened on the dynamics by increasing the variations of intensities (especially by decreasing the intensity of the calm passages, actually, but also by trying to give a little more impact to the timpani) and I also sometimes doubled some instruments and touched up here and there the writing of some short passages.

Here are 2 other compositions on which I thank you in advance for your comments. Again, it's on the mix that I feel like I'm missing out a little bit.

This one reminds me of Erik Satie's Gymnopedies. Very well done.
