Does the current version 2.6.0 of Omnisphere require 2.5 to already be installed or is it a full install standing alone?

yes, its an UPGRADE and just adds some new features

 

It DOES NOT need to have 2.5. Omnisphere does not require you to have the previous version or any other version. If you are just buying Omnisphere for first time you just install the most current full version. In this case, 2.6.

Edit: If you are a non-legit user all you need is to have your STEAM folder and the latest Omnisphere Software, Omnisphere Soundsources, and Omnisphere Patches. You can skip every update in between. All 2.6 will ask you is to locate your STEAM folder.

You download the Updater from their website and it will decide what you need and download it and install it. If your legit.

the sound lock function is also really cool, you can apply one preset characteristics to other patches & sound...

I suggest to anyone to watch Plugin-Guru's power users videos, they're really helpful and there's tons of features in Omnisphere that deserve to be explored.

It remains my favorite synth above all.

 

"Updater"? I never heard of downloading an "updater" from Spectrasonics to decide what you need. Omisphere 2 includes Spectrasonic's “Smart Update” system which will automatically compile any needed updates into a single download. Running one installer gets your entire Spectrasonics system updated. IF the user is a legit user all that is needed is the latest version.
Let us say that you are buying Omnisphere for first time. You download Omnisphere via the Download Manager and install it. Once you run it for the first time, it will let you know which updates are needed.

@The Pirate You make want to stop complaining about dodgy Spectrasonics software and updates. And I'm the one who always says "it must be the user error".

Let me also say this: since hearing and seeing Omnisphere 2.5 and Keyscape, I'm tempted to try it myself. It is software that has tons of good and useful presets, it's multi-timbral [love that!], and once installed - it just works! No, I'm not comparing it with shitty Apple...

The main reason why I didn't like Omnisphere is actually that I could not edit sounds as deeply as I wanted to. I'm a tweaker. :P As of v2.5 and now 2.6 it is much more capable. I like it!

Thanks for the speedy reply!!, I did not mean to start any sort of software war or anything and if I have I'm sorry, I do not have omnisphere installed but even as a noobie I realise it is obviously very useful software to have as well all it's counter parts Trillim and Keyscape etc. I am not a professional or an aspiring one, I am merely a hobbyist for my own amusement and it is a damn expensive hobby if you want to play about with things of this quality. To answer the underlining questions I have acquired a zipped copy of 2.6.0e it and wondered if it needed more to run as it seems quite a small package.

I dont understand or have knowledge of the steam folder thing , is that something it automatically creates and installs? Is the steam folder something I have to acquire ? the whole process is starting to sound really complicated.

You need the main installer first,before any update;which is 50 or 60 GB,I don't remember exactly.And all the steps for installing are explained in the package,in the user manual.
You need to download Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2.0,and after that you will update it to 2.6.

 

I see you are new here. Welcome to the Forum. Always a good idea to explain exactly what is it that you are looking for, plus your current operating system. In order for 2.6 to work I already explained that you must have your 60 GB STEAM folder and the latest Omnisphere Software, Omnisphere Soundsources, and Omnisphere Patches. There is NO NEED FOR PREVIOUS VERSIONS.

I never had an issue with installation of any Spectrasonics product personally or for a client. I find it to be pretty straight forward. For legit users is even easier. I tell you this, 2.6 is a freaking beast! Go for it. You don't need 2.5.Go straight to 2.6.

 

win7 x64 SP1 had problems with Omni 2.6 Gui, no patches appeared. How to safely upgrade Win7? I'm afraid something will ruin my system ..

 

No problem for me on Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64, it works fine.

Proper way to say it is MY W7 had problems with 2.6. Lots of W7 users here without any issues. Before trying to tweak your system make sure that you have Omnisphere up to date. If I was you I would reinstall 2.6 all over again. Software, patches, soundsources. And check if things are ok. I have it on a W7 lite and another W7 with some updates and I have no problems.

I wrote badly, not 2.6, but 2.5 was the mistake. I haven't tried 2.6 yet.
