Today, on 26th March 2019 at 12:30 PM, the European Parliament voted on the copyright directive. The result is truly saddening, 348 in favor, 274 against.
I don't meant to post this, but if this directive indeed comes to effect, it'll affect all of us.
The only thing we can do now, is not to vote for those MEPs that supported this censorship directive.

    Stay safe and vigilant!

Probably a good idea to start backing up things you care about from the online world.

@Andrew Very bad news indeed. Its implication for forums such as this could be disastrous. According to a draft leaked by Pirate Party MEP Julia Reda "platforms will be liable for user-uploaded content unless they can demonstrate that they "made best efforts" to obtain authorization from copyright holders and have made "best efforts to ensure the unavailability of specific works and other subject matter for which the right holders have provided the service providers with the relevant and necessary information."

Russia is not part of the EU, nor its servers, so it's still ok :bleh:

Not necessarily, members could ascent into their posts without public knowledge, unofficially of course.
Regardless of where one lives, this will affect the whole picture.
None of us are crying, but this calls for a solution.

So you think that this does not affect you? Not even collaterally? Good luck with that line of thinking.

Of course it will affect me too, but I have a clear conscience, I did not choose politicians who don't care about people, like in France right now,
but shhh nothing happened :deep_facepalm: bad things happen in Hungary and Poland

They say that a clear conscience leads to a happy heart but I dont think this will prove to be so here regardless of who you voted for.

whoever you choose they all turn around when they go to the EU parlament. So it did not matter who to vote for real. :deep_facepalm:

i bet VPN will rise now, because now people who dont have VPNs in the EU will soon get one.

this just reminds me how in every area we look at it seems absolutely crucial to keep a national/regional and multipolar independency, technologically, economically, it-technology-wise etc.

that to be able to counter what until now was called "globalisation" which after a lot of nice promises ended up in just becoming a complete corporation dictatorship backed up by the regular old colonial powers and their economical interests.

its important that every region even if connected to a global communications network of monetary/it/bank/financial systems still remains independent in all of those aspects and able to stand on its own feet when conflicts arise.

today the stablished international structures look beautiful and handy until you as a nation/organisation/political group choose another path economically or diplomatically, then you suddenly get to realise "globalisation" is a giant dictatorship-like structure that will withdraw all your possibilities to execute any work, project or agenda, its simply lights out. and when you realise it its to late

thankfully, russia, china and parts of asia and some others in southamerica and africa are at least making some efforts creating alternatives to the stablished infrastructures owned by the so called west, to bad its often only thought of when they see themselves with a sword to their throats..

The worst is that this creates a first legal step, but probably not the last one...

The Council of the European Union still has to cast their vote in favour.

On the 9th of April, the Council of the European Union will cast their vote. The Copyright Directive (and with that article 11 and 13) can still be stopped if "a key country" changes its mind and decides to vote against. [Source]

Also the next European Elections are on 23-26 May.

You could vote for the parties that didn't want Article 13 to go through? :dunno: Eh do what you want.

Censorship and propaganda, as for Hitler and Stalin, I know both, never again, never.

Corporations... money... politics... economics... politicians... give me diarrhoea. DM song Black Celebration... tooonight... comes to mind. :( But yes, this is not the beginning of Internet segregation, nor the end. It started quite a while ago.

Always keep in mind the big picture. Don't let them confine us again into our little countries, nationalism, patriotism, and *hate*, in the first place. What big picture I'm drivelling about? I've been using the Internet since 1996. I write its name with utter respect to the thing. In 22 years, so much have changed, gotten worse. I can think of just two things that actually got better: the streaming multimedia services and the availability of porn. Not joking.

Since early 2000's politicians saw that this Internet thing is getting so big that it's threatening their comfy lives, that haven't changed much for millennia. They only want to make you think something has changed. The big picture *for them* is to get all the control of the public media, and propaganda and anti propaganda, back into their own hands. They like globalisation only when it comes to a few big corporations making money, and putting a good chunk of it into their own pockets.

Yes, the :deep_facepalm: is my reaction, too... This is a somewhat bigger shit then the rest they've done so far. Expect more to come. :( People should open their eyes and minds, and fucking do something about the Internet, and try get it back to how it was in the early 2000's. Because this is so important folks, soooo important.

The freedom of Internet is practically and literally a thorn in the side of all the politicians. That makes me want those freedoms back even more.
