not a fan of 'trap' but have some knowledge . i grew up listening to old school rap/ hip hop / underground hip hop. not sure how die antwoord classify under 'trap'. pretty sure trap started back in the 90s , either lower/ southern states in the USA or Atlanta . thats my knowledge. if anyone can school me on how die antwoord is 'trap' im more than willing to learn.

again, not hating. but thats like saying "i never understood real house music until i heard Steve Aoki" . not hating on dude. but just saying u cant compare the real vs the new school or fake.....steve & i actually went to 'some what rival' high schools . who would have guessed.

i actually dont even consider new music classified as trap or hip hop the real thing. many new school kids do though. u want some real hip hop, tune to some 80s/90s type stuff; jeru da damaga , das efx, krs one, big L, dilated peoples, gangstarr, plenty more.....

i produce house/tech house. btw. hence i brought up the house music thing.

no offense to the OP or contributors,

    good vibes,

There is no such thing as real or fake as long as the rhythm is slow breakbeat = hip hop. The timbre doesn't matter. It's like saying like various house subgenres are completely different thing, well they are not - same tempo, same types of straight rhythm (if we syncopate house we get breakbeat or some kind of "trap"; if we speed it up - trance/techno)

How can you compare Aphex Twin with Die antwoord?

It's like comparing this: (I'm ashamed to be French sometimes, that's what our degenerated socialist elite call art, displayed in Paris, place Vendôme)

I don't think there's very much you could call a brain in their heads. Just one big Amygdala and the rest is for eating, drinking and excretion. :suicide:

Too much for a German as well mate. All that's just ugly to me. Even if I don't see the vids. btw: A lyric with a "fuck"-count of > 2 per rhyme isn't a lyric for me

Taste is social/cultural oriented, but also has something personal. I try to keep pretty open, and I like some not so melodical music (like Ministry, for exemple). Not bashing, but I just didn" t listen anything fresh or new in these videos. Pretty sure I've heard something very similar before, in the nineties probably. After listening to this, I felt like listening to Tricky or Massive Attack (just much much better in every way for MY personal taste, no comparison - just mentioning because of the similar slow beats and vocals). Maybe I"m just getting old. But I also didn't find it too bad. For my taste, that Dubstep thingie is much much worse (apart from Burial, which I really like, but it's something else). Well, the lyrics, at least the parts I understood, don't appeal to me either.

Nono, I mentioned the word "style". I mean image/style/show beside the actual music. This is what they all do. As for Antwoord, this is pretty much an art project.

Also, Antwoord makes music from different genres. Just a few trap tracks. There's also hiphop, EDM, 90s style techno, etc. "Fatty boom boom" with kinda african drum influences. Lots of genres.

i would say trap came from the obvious hip hop era; 80's 808 . ... hence why they use same layered samples now days. but die antwoord -- i wouldnt consider trap. i think they're just a pop duo/group who follow trends. i mean of course this whole era of mixing electronic sounds with older/ classic sounds made new sub genres . or genres in general . but in my personal opinion , maybe its just me but 'edm' became a term in the early 2000's . i've never heard any true house heads use the term 'edm' in reference to house music or techno . although it obviously IS electronic music, i think if u have enough knowledge it's always nice to refer to certain genres to what they really are.

maybe im just a bit stubborn ,who knows. but to me 'trap' music is supposed to be what it is. and people who make it/ or rap / lay vocals on 'trap' music should actually be about that life or have some type of connection towards the genre.

but to say die antwoord is trap -- i totally disagree. not hating on the group . just my personal opinion .

apologies if i offended anyone, just speaking what i know and looking to gain some knowledge if im wrong.

    good vibes,

i might have to disagree. hence the different genre/ sub genre names. thats what differentiates them. house, deep house, tech house, techno. to me those are the fundamentals of todays "edm" thing. future bass, blah blah blah, etc ..tempo isnt the same, pitch isnt the same, groove isnt the same, swing isnt the same, instruments arent the same, drums arent the same.. everything is different.
