@Smoove Grooves yah, it was just jungle for a long time .. I think the ragga was an extension/form of 'reggae' that came a bit later when the sound developed more and branched out into other sounds beyond its initial reggae influences

In the end its just names , needed to marketing a product, or invent a new name to sell the new & hot shit ...lol
The artists doin it dont care that much about the genre name, they care about the music.
As i can remember from a outsider point of view (non-uk), that sound was called jungle/breakbeats (more roller breaks, using full parts of the pitched original drumbreaks from the 70s)later the term d&b evolved and never left

Ah, okay. Ragga as I know it is a type of reggae. And there always was a ragga aspect to early Jungle. But ragga jungle, I don't know.

It's only just occurred to me that, just as the blues informs early swing and then rocknroll, - from black man to white man -...
...so is Jungle to DnB. Black to white again.

@Retrolize77 Wow, the first paragraph says it all!
    Blues. Jungle.
Rock 'n' Roll. Drum 'n' Bass.
It's what 'the industry' does to real music when it's repackaged for a different strata of people.
You're totally correct in prior post: Us musicians and creators don't care to come up with a name for a genre, we just make the stuff!

African rythmic heritage vs western capitalism same with hiphop originated from the bronx (black cnn - chuck d) or detroit techno pioneers (along with the likes of kraftwerk/berlin school).
But in the end, the music is out there, cant be stopped influencing the masses, greater than profit that is!
Btw , im a white guy from germoney, universaly minded

@Retrolize77 I actually meant the first *sentence* says it all. But the rest of the paragraph is equally relevant: Goldie is a total twit, by all accounts, and my account. Not a very nice person. Just tripping back remembering the '90's when I was up in Tottenham. Horrible place, but my cousin had a flat I could stay in!
Derek, Jamiroquai's drummer was just up the road, and I was working with another session guy from Urban Species.
Stevie Hyper D shouting "Junglists are you ready?", and everyone shouting "Bo!"
I don't even know why, but that was the required response lol!

Maybe because, by nature, they were only good for so many plays?
