    Hi all !

Do you think it is possible to have all the cracked plugins installed on an external hard drive ?
    Will this work ?

That could be great for privacy

    Thanks to all by advance
    M.

I didnt think it was possible to install programs on an external HDD. I thought Windows/OSX and the program needed to run together on the one harddrive?

    I could be wrong :dunno:

You can do it but ......... any sample based libs etc on a external USB2 or USB3 drive for get it, those external drives to slow for big those plugins other plugs should be fine, if not do the normal internal extra drive trick, i been using 3 internal drives for 10 years using plugins and it never fails obviously as the years have gone by drives have got faster, but all i have done is updated the speed and capacity but my method always the same.

Ive had clients bring me external drives but none of the big Lib's kept up with speed, so i had to transfer etc.

eSata and firewire 800 drives are much better than USB

Btw I was thinking about audio treatment plugins, not sound banks and stuff like that.

    What do you think ?

RoBoT, please tell us how you set up the three drives. Is it like: 1.system, 2.samples, 3.music/tracks? Also, if not too much trouble, brand and size? Thank you

    Disk 1 = system that's for sure
    Disk 2/3/4 = files
The rest is at user's conveniency there are no rules

what do you mean privacy? it will give you a false sense of privacy you mean cuz most of these plug ins will add entries in the registry...if people want to find something that's where they'll look...not on your drive...I guess it's not really worth it, but yes it will work for most of them, though it's not really convenient IMO

I doubt anyone is going to be marching in and examining your hard drives... but yeah, even sample libs. can be used on external drives.. just takes a lil while for them to wake up if you haven't been using them.

Half of my sample based plugins I have on externals... never had an issue.

yep my libraries are also on different drives but in the case of plug-ins it might not be the best idea to do the same, cuz if for example you forget to turn the drive on, launch your DAW and try to access the plugin or have the DAW launch the plug-ins automatically because they're part of a saved project...you might end up experiencing a crash or other problems...

USB3 FTW! and if your DAW doesn't have it, simply buy a USB3 controller - that will do.
