This theory about evil orientals and their machiavellian schemes to force plugin devs and their kids on the street flies in the face of self-evident fact. To hack some of these plugins takes some proper IT chops. Therefore it follows that R2R is comprised of well-educated individuals that have plenty paid work options & simply no need to resort to extortion to pay the rent... and you only have to read their special-festival-day NFOs to hear the pride they take in bypassing some devs expensive-to-licence (which automatically drives-up the RRP btw) & ultimately ineffective copy protection. The way they're always banging-on how much quicker their version is (or how VRs is 'wrongly' patched etc) - it's clearly about achievement, not money. A saint sees god in everyone, just as a crook thinks everyone's on the take i guess.

As mentioned above, many software firms tolerate piracy (microsoft, adobe, etc) because they KNOW that if/when you become professional, you're gonna have to go legit and pay for it, so if you've any faith in your software it's merely a deferred purchase - with another happy user spreading your software's good name around...

@Cafenegro - i don't suppose you've ever downloaded MP3s or movies either - where does it all end these days?

I've purchased more than a few things after trying out a warez version.

Warez versions are much better to try out over demo versions. Plain and simple. If I have liked it, I've bought it. I'm not one of these people that downloads every single release and installs everything and only uses a few of them. Now that's just plain stupid.

Some devs won't release demos and you have to try a warez version to see how it is. I'm not going to pay for anything I can't try first. Nope. Don't try saying anything about watching reviews because most of those people are paid to say they like it and not me actually using it.

Get off that high horse you're own and stop acting innocent. I'm still not exactly sure if you're a dev of something r2r cracked or a warez beggar. You keep bouncing back and forth between coming off like you're just pushing them to release because there's something you're wanting or you're a dev because you kept mentioning thieves and stealing as if it was personal to you.

At the end of the day, the truth is people are going to do what they please and your opinion means jack. Seriously. Go find a new hobby and stop being such a baby.

No, Stealing (audio software) is NOT stealing (a car).

First: Once made, a car may not be infinitely replicated without any raw material, human and mechanical labor which have a COST.
Once made, a software can be infinitely replicated with nothing more than a computer and electricity.
So, if you're a car maker and I stole one of your car, it will cost you the price of raw material, human and mechanical labor for making a new one. But if you're a software developer, it cost you (near) nothing when I download illegally one of your software.

Second: To be precise, if I download illegally one of your software, you may only suffer from a shortfall.
But as you previously stated:

So who will cause the shortfall? The remaining 1%? No, because these will buy it.

Stealing is stealing... from a legal point of view.
But stealing is not always stealing... in our new digital world.

 

Yeah, tell that to the dev teams/companies that spend countless hours working on creating software to make money to feed their children or the people who save their pennies all year to purchase a new plugin. REAPER ...The one I did try before buy through the actual company, cause Cockos Inc, set their demo up as the full version with nags! And it's a good thing too cause guess which version I had to buy? ...the commercial license. Hats of to Cockos for the best demo so far! Now the rest of you get it together cause Cockos is doing business very well, and they aren't in the poor house cause they know how to keep "overhead low" and word of mouth through a fully functional demo so...
