Sure,Soundtoys is a valuable dev, invest in their plugins, you won't regret it! At least their Echoboy,it's the best Delay ever for me.

Velocity and Swing are the most important elements for grooving hihats, imo.
Followed by: Gain and Pitch relation to the rest of the drumkit (Genre dependant)
Next, placing it in the mix: EQ & Filtering (HP, 6dB/Oct), Compression (fast attack to control sharp transients), Panning (if used in conjunction with other Hats), Room Reverb Send (optional), Optional: Waves Doubler or Soundtoys (Little) Microshift for putting it on the edge of the panorama if desired (also genre dependant).

I use 14" Zildjian "new beat" hi-hats. Drum Workshop stand. Vic Firth Steve Gadd model sticks have the best definition on hats. I mic it with hyper cardioid patterm mic for minimum bleed from other drums.:drummer::hahaha:

Not sure about Round Robin in Ableton but NI Battery has easy option or Max for live is the solution. Oh, Wait I think you can create a rack in Ableton for round Robin. I have created this Ableton Rack which can play 6 samples randomly.

Ableton has multiple options for Round Robin. Sharing One more option...for round robin. This way you can use more samples. Above one has only Ableton MIDI effects but this one has knob twidler, which is Max for live effect.
