Behringer tackle the world’s most iconic drum machine with the RD-808, a clone of the Roland TR-808 analogue drum machine.
The RD-808 isn’t a straight clone of the Roland hardware and adds a few useful features. The first is an analogue, resonant two-pole filter, like the one found on Behringer’s Neutron synth. Also, they’ve provided a transient designer/bus compressor with the ability to assign one or more sounds to it. This is a particularly useful addition as users of the 808 have for years been compressing the kick output of the 808.

It features eleven individual direct outs, trigger outputs, MIDI I/O via 5-pin DIN and USB

I think I might pick up a few of these clones this year, but the one I am really looking forward to is their Pro One as it just reminds me soooo much of my youth and the Chemical Brothers! Definitely gonna be picking one up.

Why do I feel like computers aren't the future of music and they never were? :) There is a place for them in music, but when you use the mouse to do everything, it just doesn't feel as good as when you tweak the knobs...

And I started fiddling with VST plugins in about 1997. It took me a while to figure it out.

Although, sound-wise, VST synths are really on par with hardware synths IMO. Lacking that little randomness in sound that only an analog path can provide, but generally there's not much difference. But physical usability is one big difference.

What is not to like? With the RD 808 Behringer has done what Roland failed to do with its more expensive and toy-likeTR-08. The Roland sounds too digital, nothing was done to improve its sequencer, and more important the TR-08 has no real studio use with its lack of individual outputs. The Behringer even on the video ads sounds better than Roland's own. It has an improved sequencer. A "wave designer" that is assignable per voice. It has a filter which is also assignable per voice. And look at those individual outputs! All of that for $299. What is not to like? I am buying one. As I said earlier on another thread, the only things that can go wrong for Behringer with these releases are quality control and technical support.

You got a source for this @The Pirate that the RD-808 will be released in march, haven't heard anything about it. I think the fuckers from roland are postponing the release.

We all know too much the TR808 sound and its horrible percs timbale,shakers,etc...
Really, people want another one, yet??They love this sound??

A SP1200 would be interesting but not another TR808,especially since Roland sell their TR08.

The musical instruments' business is really gonna be shit.In 10 years,in 2030 we will be back in 80'ies!!!:deep_facepalm::suicide:With cheap chinese false vintage Roland emulations...

Behringer's product rep Matt Baxley said it himself. You could be right about Roland postponing its release. It could be by mutual agreement while they try to reach a settlement as they did back in 2006.

  14. Behringer has announced the price and release date of the convenient RD-808 drum machine.

As we are saying, for those fans of the Roland. Behringer has announced the price and release date of the convenient RD-808 drum machine. Its a clone of the Roland TR-808 due in March for only $299. The price and release date was confirmed ahead of the NAMM music tech conference in Los Angeles, California, Where also Behringer has officially introduced the Vocoder VC340, an updated clone of the classic Roland VP330 Vocoder Plus.

The low-price music gear manufacturer revealed in Synthtopia that the new product will be out in March and retail for $299, the same price as many of its other clones. The updated copy of Roland's template-setting drum machine has been teased by the company for almost two years and comes with new features like a waveshaper, probability-based sequencing and a tunable kick drum.

Can you get it for Linux?

    Oh well.

They seemed to be on schedule to release early this year and Roland went and did THIS, and since then I've seen a few sites with preorders change them to late August. (example) Perhaps they've had to redo the layout and or graphics to bypass the legal issues.

@wuzzle Thanks for taking your time to come over from the other thread and let us know about the new (potential) release date.
Roland claim seems to be all about THE BUTTONS! As shown in the photograph I posted, Behringer in fact has counter-attacked and it has reversed the colors of the step buttons as well as the level/tone/decay buttons.

I guess there is going to be a lot of people voiding their warranty by opening the RD-808 and reversing the step buttons colors plus an aftermarket white tone/decay buttons will be available as soon as the RD-808 is released.

Sounds sweet! They did a good job with it. I think they changed the video link to https://www.musicradar.com/news/superbooth-2019-listen-to-4-minutes-of-behringers-rd-808-drum-machine-in-action
