just got live 9 going but im running into vst issues i wiped everything and started over so far kontakt works but only in 64 bit, nexus 2.2 isnt working at all. anyone know why? is nexus 2 only a 32 bit vst? it doesnt say as far as i can see anywhere, live 8 was able to read both 64 and 32 bit vsts why is 9 acting so flaky?

Im still on 8.2.7, it never failed me so I stuck with it for the last year or so. Now 9 is here Im preparing to do a clean install and go all 64bit. Got everything backed up on external HD and Im just about to do a format. Hoping the switch goes ok but reading posts like this makes me worry abit..

Then again I dont really use a great deal of vsts anymore so there shouldnt be much that could go wrong (fingers crossed)..

Btw is this thread in the right place hardware/instruments lol

its actually no issue - its only because ableton build no brigde.
im fine with it brigde nexus, AAR and some other freeware plugin which have no x64 version. so far no problems.

def not! you need a brigde something to read x64 plugin in a x32 DAW/Host.
and ableton hasnt done one unless you use jbrigde.

nope you need an external vst brigde to brigde x32 plugins into v9 x64.

There is no real need to use 64bit, unless you need 3+ Gb ram when working on a song.
I say install 32bit of live 9 / maxmsp and all is fine. Dont know about bridging plugins
but i can imagine it brings its own risks. I prefer strongly direct loading of plugins.

You're correct and lot of the time I dont need to, but omnisphere tends to give me error msgs with live when a project gets real busy. I'm used to bouncing it down but it would be nice just to leave it so it can be altered later if needed.

I've never been one for being all "64bit", it took me years to even leave xp behind, but since its here now, Im guna give it a try. Got a fresh install of windows done with all updates so will probably start on the software tonight, although it will more than likely be the weekend before I can really test things out.

A good thing thats come out of all this is when backing up my stuff to wipe my hd, I got rid of 20gb worth of samples. To some I know thats not much, but I always try to keep things to a minimum, you dont need loads of stuff that do or sound the same as the rest of the stuff you already have.

instead of bouncing, just freeze them, when you need to tweak again unfreeze it. also you could copy/move the freezed part(s) to another audiotrack, so you get it as audio for cutting and other processing (when copying you still keep the frozen track if you need to change anything again)

Freezing helps cpu more than ram. I thought it would release all used memory but I can still get out of memory msgs unless I flatten the track. Even ableton advise you to flatten the track to avoid out of memory issues.
