You will not get audio artifacts, if you use higher sample rate... That's the only reason to use it in recording, mixing and production. You can later convert to lower quality file.

I think 384 kHz is mostly for scientific and forensics use.. cool numbers though, and I believe most of the idiots thinks that this is the way it should go, even though we know our ears and brains capability.. Computers and sensors benefit from it, not human ear

Its about interface compatibility with the thunderbolt on windows itself. Probably needs some additional tweeks.
I think what happened here is, they wanted to get the product out before NAMM, so they probably hurried up before they finished working on windows drivers.

This is the top audio interface from Steinberg for the next years and they put AES/EBU on it and not Dante ... ?
... Steinberg or Yamaha, does they have any other interface with AES/EBU ...? IMHO this is not logical

8 Preamps and Dante for connecting to other Yamaha devices would have been more logical, IMHO

And why there´s not any audio interface with more than one IN/OUT SPDIF for using with outboard gear ...?
This is something that I really can´t understand ...

Fortunately its a big market so one can really choose the interface based on what he needs. The biggest selling point with steinberg interfaces like the MR816 or AXR4T is the tight cubase integration.
Also, you get some of the best, neutral converters for the money rivaling converters in much more expensive units.
Also, made by Yamaha means its built like a tank and based on the pictures of the guts of the AX unit, its pure quality.

Please explain how I could use a condenser mic without a preamp, or a dynamic or ribbon mic that needs tons of gain.

    Edited.

Steinberg's market share has probably decreased a lot these 15 last years, with new contenders like Ableton,Studio One and Reaper,Bitwig....

I've read today that Steinberg sell a EQ and a compressor plugins, for 719€ in France !!!
    https://www.michenaud.com/p17088/steinberg-rnd-portico-5033-5043-bundle.php

And "only" 399$ for USA !
    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RNDPlugBun--steinberg-rnd-portico-5033-5043-plug-in-bundle

    WTF? Why such a difference?
Steinberg don't like French obviously, like many people around the world !:wtf:

Anybody knows these 2 plugins, are they good ?

It all gets dithered down to 44.1 16 bit. It might make a difference on recording but I doubt you can hear it also.

It more Yamaha than Steinberg. Yamaha has always had good inter phases. Except there drivers only last for one version of windows then you go and get another one or live with your old OS.

If I have that amount of money, I would buy RME UFX+ instead. Far better superior in terms of reliability.
