What really is & does a digital preamp, analog gear simulater / saturator?
I got that Klevgrand Reamp, and liked it at first, but i think i need to use it subtle.
I know the topic is kind of overdone,
but i heard the Black Rooster Vpre-73 yesterday little quick and it sounded amazing!
What it do to the top end is WOW.
What really does it do to the top end technically?Does it work like a exciter?
    Other plugins that are similar?

I'm not a plugin developper but preamps plugins are saturators. So light distortions, they add harmonics.
There are tons of preamps,Soundtoys Radiator,Waves Schepps 73,IK Multimedia EQ 73,81 ,etc...

Ok, thx. So its another name for saturators in a way. Thing is im kind of speachless of the clarity & silky hi freq content this BR Vpre-73 adds. Im not able to listen to my stuff after disabling this plugin after a quick check on masterbus, such a felt lack of highend spectrum. Damn, igotta start using analyzer tools.

    Feel free to ask.

Run a pink noise through both and watch the difference. :winker:

Heads up for new Sistersite Osx Release!
I read @ Gearslutz that the Fuse Vpre-376 may be coded by the same guy who coded Vpre-73, and that it is very good handling fast transients in a nice way! I def look forward to check it out!

Sorry, dunno, kind of new to the amp stuff at all. Also Voxengo Warmifier looks nice, have to try. Not yet tested any Mercuriall stuff, have to check if theres a preamp shootout somewhere in gearslutz/kvr, but in the end i guess they arent that different , i get similar nice silky results with Satin in Hf Exciter Preset!
Its all about taste & cpu

Nice! Unfortunately im on mac here /64, but maybe you can share some knowledge about the possible differences the amp emulation could have, or how to recognize the quality of a good amp. We all struggle to sound warm & not too digital, at least most of us, so this can be interesting!

well in my take the difference in preamp emulation are really sum down to
tonal vibe = the static curves thats added to your signal without any setting change
hardware noise and hum = visible or Subtle
drive knob = distortion = dynamic curves that occurred through out if driven hard it normalize the freq with choice of clipping

    so id Create new session
grab all your preamps and A/B them with a frequency meter and jock notes to what each does

*sorry just woke up all over the place*

    From kvr forum on Vpre-73:
„This is going to be one of those plugins you can't be without if you want to make your sound more analog-like. Pushing gain around 54 gives you a creamy saturation while shaving off a couple of dBs from the peaks.
Just don't forget to use the right mouse click for linked operation which works like autogain, bringing the trim level down.“
