Recently I've discovered that Andy Wallance and CLA have mixed the exactly same song and I've found the audios...
I separated them so you guys can give a listen and give a feedback of what do you think?

They both are just legendary grammy award mixing engineers!!!

Both are at the same volume.

Don't forget to vote in the poll!

    Andy Wallace :

    CLA :

I uploaded the audios too, so you can compare in your daw.

I really liked CLA's stereo field a lot. But I somewhat liked the dynamics and bass heavy mix of Andy's. But I gave my decision at 2:08 for CLA. Note: I am not a proffesional mixer.

In this case Andy Wallece suits my taste better.. But just for very little.. I mean Andy Wallace is GOD when it comes to mixing.. But CLA is another one.. Very autentic and punchy dynamics on both but something on AW one feels more organic, and that kick low end punch move a lot more energy for me. Great examples btw..
Is this the mixes before mastering or they are mastered already?

Andy Wallace, easily. Sounds more exciting, open, makes me want to nod my head along even though it's not a band I enjoy.

CLA sounds restrained, filtered. Vocals sound telephone-like, songs just feels a bit flat.

@Banz these posts are very educational and entertaining at the same time. So thanks for taking the time. we needed this

I like Andy's mix. IMO it's more balanced and fits the feel of the track.
To judge these mix more fairly, we have to forget the celebrity status of the mixers. we have to play them without having a feeling before hand.

Is this 64kbps or something? hard to judge with this quality but I liked Andy's more, sounds less processed, more like an actual band.

What song is it, anyway? I guess something from Avenged Sevenfold.

CLA sounds more powerful and standard to me. But the resolution is very low. I can not hear cymbals clearly.

CLA have some muddy that I don't like, I like the vibe but sometimes is too much.
The Andy Wallace is very good, but I will don't mind if the guitars were a little bit louder!

The drummer was James Owen Sullivan aka Rev. That's why I prefer dynamic mix of Andy Wallace over CLA.
One of my favorite band and one of my favorite drummer (Rev).

First of all, the clip here sounds noticeably different from the CD. I have both albums. The original AW mix from the self titled album, and the CLA version is on Diamonds in the Rough. Second, I choose AW mix over CLA. It's clearly that CLA mix sounds more punchy and more in your face. He use sample replacement on already great sounding drum and amazing natural drummer Jimmy Sullivan (RIP), and also the vocal way to compressed and distorted. So, yeah.. Andy Wallace has more musical mix.

Would be great if you upload the version you have! The Andy's one was from Spotify, the CLA's one was from a CD.

Andy Wallace mix sounds hollow! It sounds like a lot of stereo imaging things are going on in the back.
For this type of music, I insist not to use or aim for very wide music, because it makes the center of the mix empty, and overall less powerful.

Sometimes this helps if you are mixing a symphonic metal with lots of instrument but not for standard metal or hard rock.

Before hearing either of them I was assuming I would go for Andy. I've liked a lot of his work in the past and to be honest, I don't like CLA as a person (which means nothing to the audio but admittedly adds a certain amount of bias to my decision making.) That being said, CLA has this one in the bag. Phase issues or not, CLA's is better. Lastly, and ultimately, I completely agree with Grok:

Both of these mixes are very average, indeed.
