There‘s so much to know about the tools we all got & use to a certain extent. I‘m curious how you use Gate, especially in Electrinic Music.
I use it sometimes to clarify percussion sounds, maybe to tighten a bass sound, but mostly use presets and mold it to fit the track. Please share some insights how you use Gate for your tracks, and which Plugin you use?

I use combination of gates and downward expanders to get rid of all kind of unwanted background noises (pops, crackles, noisefloor) on recorded tracks, to shorten the length of percussion sounds and lower the sustain phase where necessary (percs, basses, ...).
Mainly with Reaper stock plugs and DMGAudio TrackGate.

i use it to make drum loops more 'clippy' or tighter so it pops a bit... and cuts out unwanted noise

You can use it to transform loop into something else or use a rhytmic element in sidechain to change a sustained sound like a pad.

Err, maybe there's a missunderstanding? A downward expander is to a gate as a compressor is to a limiter. Below the threshold a gate has a infinite gain reduction, whereas a downward expander can have a 1:1,1 to 1:infinite (depends on the plug).

Can be of great help with loops.

    @Retrolize77
    Here an example:

    Or there:

Reverse sidechained gate can be usefull too, so the gate will open (so the sound will play) when the source isn't playing.

I use ableton reverse sidechained gate for:
using a hit, eg snare to replace or strengthen the hit in a drum loop, or leave hit channel off to punch spaces into a loop

I generally use it for three things (Fabfilter Pro-G being my weapon of choice).
    1) gating drums to get a tighter sound and avoid overly ringing toms.
    2) gating reverbs to get a gated reverb sound
    3) use sidechain input on a gate to open up a sub synth or noise whenever a sound is triggering it (good for adding low sine on kick, adding a real room ambiance tail to drums or adding noise to a sound when doing sound design).

I wonder if there‘s a preset pack for the fabfilter gate. Are there any preset packs (sistersite, selfmade?) for the glorious fabfilter plugins pack (which i use most)?
A little off topic but interesting, at least for me.

Fabfilter pro-mb. Multiband gating is an excellent way to clean up drum loops
